I say PVNR not because of his unblemished record but because of the cards he was dealt with. Leading a party which hates him at a time of grave finance crisis with limited resources and authority in a country where terroris attacks and law order is failing at every statge.

Those 5 years have had an indelible impact on India story. Yes it was forced by the circumstances. But the man had the spine to see this through. Highly knowledgeble and learned person as well. Sure there corruption cases, but lets face it. This is Congress. Tomorrow if BJP is going to become defacto party in India, BJP will also be as corrupt.

Look at the graph below for # of digital payment transactions from here - https://www.nic.in/blogs/digital-payments-driving-the-growth-of-digital-economy/#:~:text=The demonetization policy in India, the years since[1].

Look at the bump from 2016 when demo happened to 2017 and then 2018 and beyond. There is almost a 200x change between 2016 and 17 which happened not only due to demonetization, but also due to the financial inclusion of people into the banking system which the govt worked incredibly hard to do in the first couple of years since 2014.

I remember Chidambaram speaking in parliament sarcastically taunting the govt as to whether any vegetable seller would ever use digital payments. That is the kind of vision the Congress party brought in vs what the current govt brings in for India.

Sad part chiddu was FM and made these statements. These idiots had no vision.

Corruption will be there as long as people have loose morals. But BJP took out license raj which was holding back india from a manufacturing perspective and would award the party in power to dictate which company will get a license and also they allow companies to file bankruptcy now. Sanjay sanyal mentioned these in couple of days interviews. Bankruptcy was treated as a crime earlier and more pressure on companies to stay afloat which made them take bad loans which put them in even worse conditions when they fail.
