Nehru and the Himalayan blunder

The 1961 appointment of General Pran Nath Thapar as Chief of the Army Staff remains a topic of historical scrutiny and debate. General Thapar, father of journalist Karan Thapar and uncle of historian Romila Thapar, was appointed by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, allegedly due to his trusted relationship with Nehru rather than his strategic experience.

Now we have to endure Karan Thapar who is useless. The Gandhi family preferring family connections was a familiar story

India didn't lose Aksai Chin in 1962.. it was lost prior to that in late 50's when China started construction of G219 highway.

India never had any physical control of the region nor did British. It was easily accessible to Chinese side rather than Indian.

There was no battle fought inside Aksai Chin in 1962.

 

Nehru's stupidity was his expansionist ideas and he wanted to push Indian boundaries to Kunlun Range deep into Xinjiang without Military capabilities to do so. Skirmishes began when he started sending soldiers deep into the Aksai Chin near Kunlun Range that got KIA instantly. This triggered conflict.

 

Intel failure and poor military leadership played it's role.
