Dhoni lambasts Asia Cup schedule

Recommended Posts

Agree with MSD. With next two matches against Pukis and SL are again without even a day break. Once you play a demanding full day Cricket against such opponents, fatigue takes it's toll....No wonder quality players regularly falling pray to injury has become a common news. All you need is a full rest for a day then some practice..Seems it's not possible with BCCI's unquenching lust for money. We will continue to such schedules in future and captains lament after that.

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Saturday lambasted the grueling schedule of the Asia Cup after his side swamped Bangladesh by seven wickets to record their third successive win in the competition held in Karachi. "We have spent 36 hours playing cricket out of the 84 hours we have been in Karachi. It is too tight. I am not happy with the schedule. Two teams have to play back to back matches while two have got a day off," he said at the post match press conference. Dhoni said his players were really tired after the matches and he was happy they would now get a couple of days off. "It was tough out there for us. But I am happy we have kept going. Suresh Raina, Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have batted really well in the tournament and I hope they keep on doing the same," he said. Dhoni, however, made it clear that despite the big wins his team would guard against complacency and not get over confident. "The other teams can`t be written off and they can still come back so we have to be careful and we have to continue to play like this," he added. He said he was not surprised at the way Bangladeshi batsman Alok Kapali had played. Kapali made 115 runs in the Bangladesh total of 283. "He is an international player and one expects this from an international player. I think he exploited the situation and pitch well and he picked the right areas to hit." http://cricket.zeenews.com/fullstory.asp?nid=11148

Dhoni has been playing continuously for a long long time..without many breaks in between.. he seriously needs to rest his body and energize himself..physically and mentally.. Most players have got rest....either because of injury or rotation.. but we should have chosen at least one more keeper to keep give Dhoni some rest in some inconsequential matches like against associates and weak teams like Pakistan.. Our coach should have asked for a second keeper to give some breathing space for Dhoni... we need him and other players fully fit for champions trophy..

Dhoni has been playing in every damn match, Star Cricket discussed this too and seems Kirsten has already talked with the board that the first player that needs rest is Dhoni. Hopefully, BCCI instead of doing stupid shith like dictating ECB to not play ICL players and taking a stance for Zim purely for selfish reasons, do something sensible for Indian cricket.
