Dhoni best skipper in decades Dhoni best skipper in decades Javagal Srinath WHEN A bunch of talented young men get together and play as a team, concentrating on the achievements of the whole rather than the parts, good results are never far away. And if there is something Mahendra Singh Dhoni specialises in, it is in getting his boys to play as a unit. I would say that Dhoni is the best Indian captain in the last two-three decades. The calm that he brings to proceedings, irrespective of the tense situations, the ease with which he handles pressure, be it while batting or leading the side, make Dhoni special. That he leads by example makes it that much easier to demand big things from his mates. However, a captain is always only as good as his team and a lot depends on how the team responds to the leader's call. Here the Indian team excelled, more so the bowlers. The batsmen slipped in the last 10 overs, and that may have hit the confidence of the bowlers, who were probably preparing for a score of 280. To their credit, the bowlers, led by Zaheer Khan once again, didn't let that affect them. One must remember that in Sri Lanka, bowling is never easy The conditions are sapping, the humidity killing. It's no wonder that the extremely fit Dhoni too struggled. Performing in such conditions, match after match, takes some doing and I take my hat off to Zaheer. Ever since he has come back from injury, he's got better and better It must have helped that he took his time and didn't rush things. I particularly liked the way Praveen Kumar and Munaf Patel supported Zaheer and with Harbhajan Singh back to his wicket-taking ways, the Sri Lankans didn't have any respite. That actually was the key to this triumph, the ability to take wickets regularly, be it the fast men or the spinners. There simply was no easy way out for the Sri Lankan batsmen. It was also good to see a couple of young batsmen coming good. Scoring runs in a dead rubber is one thing and doing so when the series is very much in the balance is another The contributions of Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina must be seen in that light. Also, anyone can hammer the ball on flat tracks but contributing on pitches where there is something for the bowlers, needs a fair amount of ability.

Dhoni has complete control over his team. Kumble being a much, much more senior cricketer just doesn't get how to balance his team with a good bowling comibination. But right from the first ODI it was clear Dhoni had a very good idea of which bowlers were going to be in his side going from 5 to 4 man attacks successfully. He's changed the bowling lineup more in this series than I've seen from Kumble in a very long time. Dhoni just has the pulse of this team and knows what they can and cannot do. Really anyone else think Patel would have stormed into the ODI series with such sustained wicket to wicket bowling tight on the off stump line? What about the re - emergence from Praveen Kumar, using Yuvraj for 7-8 overs etc etc? There are just so many examples that tell me what a complete captain this guy is becoming.

Maybe Dhoni is the complete captain in lmited overs cricket only and when he wins the toss only. Thus there are a few caveats to the statement "MSD:Complete Captain"
Honestly dsr, has Dhoni done any personal damage to you?
