Have to hand it to him how he has been able to fool people for so long! He's not a T20 player but plays in the team in the finisher role coming in at 6. Yet he barely vats at 120SR. In a match where the opponents scored 200+ and his team chased it in 18 overs, Jadeja scored 24 off 25 deliveries! I don't think there would be an innings with more balls faced than what Jadeja did for a sub-100 SR! This knock would be unacceptable in ODIs and he's playing it in IPL in the days of Impact Player!

I couldn't care less about Jadeja playing in IPL but IMO this should be it for him ODIs as well. But I still can't figure it out how Jadeja has the image and perception around the world as a hitter and finisher. He's touted as a big hitter and match-winner when I haven't seen him win anything with the bat. This has to be a case study on how to make people have a different perception about you in plain sight!

Jaddu is a LA spinner , gun fielder and can bat thats why he got selected over and over again Ind didnt have a leg/wrist spinner who can bat

Here is the data for Ind players with min. 50 t20is and lowest sr , ms was playing as finisher for years in t20i, dhawal opened for years , rishab was in previous t20i wc batting #3,

minimum of 50 matches, here are the top 10 Indian batters with the lowest T20I career strike rates:

Jadeja is not a T20 Player. He is a GreatTest player, and I would say decent ODI player with his utility.

His batting style and ability was just ok for 2010-2017 kind of timeline of T20 era. After that he never kept pace with changing times.  His other teammates from the era are same as him or slightly better.

He continues to play T20 as we need lot of players to play IPL. People do not realize, way too many players to this day have less utility than him. Jadeja is not a hitter, he is not a finisher but he is not a top order player either. He just happens to bat no.7 as somehow that is where his turn comes in. He can bowl 4 decent overs if the pitch has a bit in him and is not expensive even to this day. He does not take many wickets but generally economical in comparison. Fields well and takes catches. He can contribute with the bat if asking rate is less than 8-9 runs per overs. Jadeja is very limited in striking ability and unless lucky wont strike above 150 SR.

Again.. not a strong T20 middle order batter.. not a high quality wicket taking spinner but just about has his use still to this day.. He probably can play 2-3 more years.

Thought he did what was needed. After Suryanvanshi's knock the RRR was low but they lost quick wickets. Only way they could lose was by collapsing and that was avoided.

Agree with OP that he should not have played T20I, but on IPL level hes been decent to good, part of many winning squads including him winning it in 2023 in dramatic style. Certainly better than likes of KL Rahul, Bhuvi etc who rarely get scrutinised

Jadeja has not done badly in helping CSK.

CSK win 2023-

12 innings / 190 runs / 142 SR

20 wickets / 7.5 Economy

CSK win 2021 -

11 innings / 227 runs / 145 SR

13 Wickets / 7.06 economy

Even last season in which CSK ended badly, he scored 300 runs and took 10 wickets.

Like mentioned before he is not you top draw T20 batter, bowler or finisher. So, nothing to highlight his work. However, he does contribute with the ball mostly and with the bat when he gets his turn. Main problem is he cant chase down high asking rate by himself or post those big overs unless he is having a good day.

Many seasons of IPL, he takes more wickets than specialist bowlers and scores more runs than specialist batters.. Lot of value in the field. This is the reason why teams pay him money and want to play him.

Agree with lord that he played T20I a bit longer than he should have. But that is more due less depth in batting and bowling options before 2021-2022 timeline. India has really accelerated as a T20I leader over last 2-3 years. This is where not just Jadeja but everyone from his era feels out of place, outdated..
