Vengsarkar unhappy with Kumble's revelations

Anil Kumble, India’s Test captain, has been warned by the BCCI for revealing what transpired in a selection meeting. Selection committee chairman Dilip Vengsarkar was unhappy with certain comments that Kumble made to a Mumbai tabloid. On Friday, BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah communicated the board’s displeasure to Kumble. “Dear Anil, I’ve been informed by Chairman that a newspaper has published a story about selection meeting ...attributed to you,” Shah wrote to Kumble. “You are aware that proceedings of the committee are not supposed to be divulged and is certainly not meant for public discussion,” said Shah, before signing off: “As a senior player you should have restrained from such interviews... In the interview, Kumble had explained the inclusion of two keepers in the squad for Sri Lanka. “As captain, I am aware that there could be problems if the specialist were to pull a muscle or have a runny stomach on the morning of a Test. There was a suggestion Rahul be the second keeper, but I persuaded the committee to view things from Indian cricket’s point of view...I contended there was nothing wrong in taking the additional specialist wicketkeeper. I know Rahul would not like to be saddled with such a responsibility,” Kumble is quoted as saying.

What a joke? Vengsarkar was himself guilty of divulging internal cricket matters in the public and to the media while Rahul Dravid was the captain. The very reason Rahul Dravid quit as a captain was because Vengsarkar was not keeping the confidential team matters within the team but was commenting about it in the media. Now Vengsarkar's unhappy with Anil Kumble because he revealed the stupid selectors thought Rahul Dravid should be keeping in the test matches. Is there a limit to stupidity from these selectors? There are two decent WK batsmen waiting in the wings but they want Rahul Dravid to keep. I can't understand the selectors are this insane. I'm glad Kumble came out in open with this. It almost sounds as if the selectors are working against Rahul Dravid and want him out of the team. They seem to be trying every possible way to get rid of Rahul from the test team. If there is a change needed in the Indian cricket then the selection process should be made public.

I have a feeling Vengsarkar is on some kind of a grudge war against Dravid. It all probably started with the likes of Jaffer and Ganguly being brought back for ODIs in SA in 2006, followed by their battles over Sehwag leading to the chop that Sehwag got, constant interference in the selection of the playing XI by Vengsarkar when Dravid was captain, and finally the rest that Dravid got during the Pakistan series when he could not take captaincy anymore. I think they are looking for the flimsiest of excuse to drop Dravid.

what an idiotic suggestion by vengcircus to make your premiere test player to keep wickets for 1-2 days..and then expect him to play long innings after that... saala..vengy always had this thing against him... and the problem is that Bombay lobby has captured BCCI like a leech...he can't be replaced for next one year at least... i think ex players with impeccable integrity should be the selectors.. IMO Ravi shastri should be the permanent selector....i don't have trust on sunny also...he is too mumbhai... i am glad that we have a statesman captain of Kumble's stature at this point of time...who can speak his mind... one problem is that...none of the media channels will highlight this conspiracy...

and the same selectors pick teams based on quota-system rather than merit. i hope kumble reveals some inside facts of the quota-system seletion due to which players like rohit sharma & munaf patel got selected ahead of badrinath & pravin kumar

BCCI should be careful not to undo the progress India has made in the last couple of years. Kumble is one of the most sensible captains in a long time. There was no need to give him a public warning. And its high time Vengsarkar got rid of.
