If it is a turner, hopefully our batsman have played the tapes of Mendis & Murali over and over again to study and Kumble/Harbhajan woud turn the freaking ball. Our spinners were not born yesterday. If India surrender this test again, I will personally come to SL to chop therir bawls OFF.

this black prince guy.. seems to be another ashamed paki hiding behind a west indies fan id :haha: poor pakis...
You're wrong - TBP's an old timer from the Shiv/WI Cricket boards - serious West Indian fan who often has pretty good insights on other teams. Hardly a Pak fan.

Ojha should replace the useless Bhaji ' date=' Kumble should also be asked to retire if he does not perform in the remaining tests of the series...[/quote'] I agree. If Kumble doesn't perform then he must retire if he doesn't then I hope our board has the balls to give him the :finger:.

India face another stern 'spin' test India will have to quickly find a solution to deal with the twin threat, Muthiah Muralitharan and Ajantha Mendis, as they go into the must-win second Test in Galle on Thursday. Spl: Mission Sri Lanka More... India face another stern 'spin' test TV Sriram, Press Trust Of India Galle, July 30, 2008 First Published: 12:19 IST(30/7/2008) Last Updated: 13:53 IST(30/7/2008) Print A demoralised India will have to quickly find a solution to counter the twin threat posed by Sri Lankan spinners as they go into the must-win second cricket Test in Galle on Thursday with the reputation of their star-studded batting line-up at stake. Still licking the wounds of their humiliating defeat in the first Test in Colombo, the Indians got little time to regroup and work out a definite strategy to deal with the wily Muthiah Muralitharan and new spin sensation Ajantha Mendis who have proved quite a handful for the visitors. Apart from the poor batting display, the Indian bowling and fielding also left much to be desired in Colombo and it will need a vastly improved performance from Anil Kumble and his men to keep themselves afloat in the three-match series. The pressure, no doubt, will be on the batsmen who surrendered meekly to the spinners in the last game which was quite surprising considering their experience and reputation of playing spin bowling. For a batting line-up which boasts of seasoned batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag, the collective failure in Colombo should serve as a big blow. It will be a real test of character for these top batsmen and they will be keen to prove a point. The Indians have also been toying with the idea of bringing in left arm spinner Pragyan Ojha at the expense of a batsman to strengthen the spin department as the track here is expected to assist the slow bowlers. Dinesh Karthik had a miserable time behind the wickets and as a batsman but the team management may still persist with him for the crucial game in conditions which are bound to favour the home team. The Sri Lankans, on the other hand, have no major problems and will again be depending on Murali and Mendis to do bulk of the damage. The duo captured 19 of the 20 wickets in Colombo to script a resounding win for the team. Curator Jayantha Waranaveera has already sounded the alarm bells by declaring that the pitch for the second Test will assist spinners from the third day onwards. "This will be a spinners' wicket because Lankans have got good spinners. Why should we not prepare the pitch for spinners when we have bowlers like Muralitharan and Mendis in our squad," Waranaveera said. However, the curator insists that the track would assist the fast bowlers initially if they bowl with discipline. "It will assist seamers initially. From the third day, it will start spinning. If Sri Lanka bat first then India could face defeat," he predicted. In that case, the Indians may not want to bat in the fourth innings and for that to happen they will have to win the toss. It will be imperative for India that Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir give them a solid start as it will ease the pressure on the other batsmen. Dravid, who has been struggling for form, will be under less pressure if the start is good and it could help him to settle down and play a long innings while Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman can play their natural game. Sehwag and Gambhir have every opportunity to score quickly in the begining as Sri Lankan paceman Chamida Vaas and new recruit Nuwan Kulasekara lack pace. The two averaged between 120 and 125kph in Colombo and bowled only 30 overs in all in a Test dominated by the spinners. Vaas went wicketless and at one stage his pace dipped to as low as 115 kph. Sri Lankans thus have included young pacer Dammika Prasad in the squad for the crucial game. Having dropped a few costly catches in the first Test, Indian also need to work on their ground fielding. "As far as the fielding is concerned, Gambhir is working hard on close catches. In the last match, slip cordon was good. Dinesh Karthik had a bad match. He dropped a few catches but it is a part of the game. We hope to come back strongly," fielding coach Robin Singh said.

Lanka to retain winning combination for second Test: Mahela Jayawardene said Muttiah Muralitharan was also glad to have a spin partner like Mendis. More... Lanka to retain winning combination for second Test: Mahela Press Trust Of India Galle, Sri Lanka, July 30, 2008 First Published: 16:28 IST(30/7/2008) Last Updated: 16:31 IST(30/7/2008) Planning to wrap up the three-match series here, Sri Lankan Cricket captain Mahela Jayawardene today said they would retain the winning combination in the secondcricket Test beginning tomorrow. "We will probably play the same team. We have spoken to the selectors and they are happy to have the same team," Jayawardene told reporters after the team's practice session at the Galle stadium. Asked if Sri Lanka would try to wrap up the series with a Test to spare, Jayawardene said "that is the plan definitely". Meanwhile, the ground authorities were working overtime to dry the field before the scheduled start of the match tomorrow following heavy overnight rains here. Jayawardene said besides top spinners Muttiah Muralitharan and Ajantha Mendis, Sri Lanka was also looking to the fast bowlers to get early breakthroughs in these conditions. "When you have two quality spinners in your side they will definitely try to play a big part. We want to create more opportunities with our pacers as well if that is possible. "That is something we spoke at length in our meetings and see what type of opportunities we could create for the fast bowlers," he said. Jayawardene said paceman Chaminda Vaas "could not come into the game the other day but he loves these kind of conditions. He has taken most ofhis wickets in these kind of conditions". Jayawardene said it would be "very good", if the ace bowler gets a few wickets. Asked ifthe mystery bowler Mendis had been given any instruction, Jayawardene said he was told to play his natural game. "Go out and enjoy himself. That is what he did in the last game. He had a very big smile when he took the ball and we just want him to continue to do that. It is important that we keep him the way he is," he said. Jayawardene said Muttiah Muralitharan was also glad to have a spin partner like Mendis. "Murali is much more comfortable. Murali doesn't have to do all the work by himself. Because he is going to create opportunities. Because if Vaas comes in and create a few problems for Indian batting line way we will be in good hands. On inclusion of Dhammika Prasad into the side, the Sri Lankan captain said he had impressed quite a lot of people. "We thought to get him into the set up, give him that feeling in the dressing room and practices so that he gets used to the whole team and environment. He is a good cricketer and a guy who can also bat." Jayawardene said if the wicket stays dry without rain hampering the game, the ball would start turning on the fourth day. The Skipper said he was happy to play at the Galle stadium where had held good record.

They should pick Dammikatesh Prasad ahead of Kulasekara. He has a bit of pace and he troubled the Indians in the warm-up game. But if they want to get complacent' date=' that's fine with me.[/quote'] Drop Vaas and Kulasekara....get two extra batsmen...Murali & Mendis will run thru our team yet again !
