I am not surprised. There is a saying ' sometimes, communities in isolation petrify'. This is a classic example of this. Take for eg the Sikhs in Vancouver : they are, in general, far more hardcore than most sikhs in India and most of the young sikhs here are at the same level of conservativeness as the really old farts in India. And its pretty much only the sikh community here who are a 'throwback' to a zamana long gone. Most other desis don't stick out. And there is very good reason to this : the Sikhs came here first in bulk (whole shiploads of them, not a steady but unconnected trickle) and the near-identical experiences of thousands of first timers gave them a very strong introverted look. Plus they came a long time ago and got discriminated against massively initially and that made them the kind of defensive, right wing stuff i run into all the time here. The other desis, having come individually and much later when Canada was a more relaxed society, has blended in fairly well. Ofcourse, with their traditional getup, Sikhs stand out a lot more in the community than other desis. The same has happened to the Brit Asian-muslims. For one, they stick out ( the plethora of no-mooch bushy beards stick out), they are very introverted and they started bulk immigration there much earlier. Also, having lived in the middle east and having observed many ethnicities, i've noticed that non-native minorities (ie, minorities who don't identify SOLELY with their land of domicile ala say minority first nations and such) tend to be far more hardcore and aggressive in their outlook than others. The Brit community for eg, in Qatar is far more hardcore (far more # of racists) than the Brits in Britain in general. Whereas Brits in UAE are fairly chillaxed. Desis in Qatar or Bahrain are pretty relaxed but desis in Kuwait tend to be far more 'go Indiaaaaaaaa' type. IMO, France has the right idea : emphasize external homogenizing activities ( scarf ban for eg) because the west is remarkably homogenous in external appearances. In our country, the variety of dresses are mindboggling - its not just a two-piece/one-piece type thats a shirt you squeeze into or button up plus pants/skirts. In our nation, dressing audatiously doesnt get much stares coz we are used to seeing a mindboggling variety of dresses (especially tavelling through the country) but in the west, it does. The muslim Brits need to integrate better, its just that simple. And for those who think Britian is going to succumb to psuedo-secularism or Islamism, i say you don't know your Brits. Brits have toughed out far worse- if they can crush the massive brownshirt movement (read: Nazis) in pre-WWII chaotic scenario, they can handle a few Koran-thumpers. They tend to potray the 'stiff upper lip' version of 'all is well in paradise' but their soceity has a way of very quick and decisive action when 'paani sar se unncha ho raha hai' factor kicks in.

Personally speaking, I have had this opinion that Mods shouldnt intervene in some petty, personal fights between two individual posters, unless it goes on for a prolonged period of time. After all, if two people want to embarass themsevles, behaving like teens, abusing each other on an internet forum, why should anyone stop them and be denied of all the fun and laughter? But, I suppose all these stupid posts affects the sensitivities of other posters too. So from now on, no personal cat-fights will be tolerated.
