I've also heard he charges $5k+ for consultations etc. Can you believe people pay for all this? These are well educated people living in USA, and falling for this kind of cra.p. Where there are people who dish out thousands of $ like this without thinking, such scoundrels arise.

THX_1138 Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 To be honest, while this is more fodder for the cannon for my team i.e. the rabid atheists; i work with my local ISKCON temple in houston, texas. while i disagree with them on their ideology, i do admire their ethics. the temple is managed not by one, but four priests who live right next to the temple in very modest accomodations and draw a very small salary (less than 30K). so marginal is this amount that they all have to maintain steady day jobs or work night shifts at local stores etc to run their households. furthermore, there is considerable transparency at this institution and while they never turn down donations, and actively solicit them, and like the above, rent out their premises to third party vendors, they adhere with a spartan discipline to certain edicts of their faith: only satvik food on the premises. I think this is an isolated incident, but in my limited observation, i have noticed that this questionable behavior at other places too. for instance, i once accompanied my roommate to our local south indian temple since he had to perform a certain ritual for his late father, and it was there that i noticed that they were charging him close to 200 bucks for the ritual which required a new dhoti (an additional 20 bucks) and a prayer plate. furthermore, they had a peculiar drive through lane for, and i kid you not, "car pooja".

Whats outraged me the most is when those guy allow beer/barbecue to be brought into the temple premises, without a moments' hesitation. How can anyone engaging in the profession of spirituality be so unethical is beyond me. Its a shame.

As THX said the "Dr blah" title shud have alerted folks. This Dr Blah advertises in many Indian magazines in North America
