You need to do a crash-course on USA politics. A VP is by definition someone who can take President's position if need be. Considering McCain is the eldest President EVER I would actually be very careful on who the VP is. Even his best fans admit he may not be around for 2nd term. So again, do a bit of study before you start yapping just because someone suits your Right wing agenda. Ditto as above. while it might support the republican agenda that palin chose not to abort a fetus with such birth defects, and the fact that mccain has two adopted children, they do deserve credit for practicing what they preach. a number of republicans talk about opposing abortion but would never step upto the plate and shoulder the burden of the numerous abandoned infants, or those born with birth defects. these two deserve some applause there... however, i personally do not think that palin's decision to go ahead with the birth of a child with such a disorder is particularly noble. she has in her choice increased burden on the state which will be required to expend greater resources in an end sum game, if her child goes to a public school. furthermore, little is said about the right of an individual to lead a life where they have adequate opportunity to the pursuit of happiness; something an individual with such a disorder is incapable of. infact, i argue that not aborting such a fetus leads to further aggravation for the child that will eventually be born. of course, this is all too progressive and possibly even too intellectual for discussion during a presidential election in the united states. p.s. at the moment though, the pro abortion choice contingent overwhelms the anti abortion contingent, its just that the later is quite vociferous and has some great placards lying about. i once volunteered for a campus organization called VOX and it promotes sexual awareness amongst the masses and is lobbying for a freeze on the cost of birth control, especially women's birth control, the price of which has quadrupled in the last five years... well this organization was once volunteering with the local Planned Parenthood and they were facing a unique problem: women who arrived at the clinic, which was in the middle of downtown houston would be ambushed by these anti abortion douche bags who would put the women on a guilt trip about what they might be about to do, which might even be as innocuous as a pap smear. eventually we organized small teams and every time someone arrived at the parking lot, we virtually acted like a human shield, ushering them into the main building while keeping the yapping dogs at bay. what stunned us was not the audacity of the protestors and their uncivil approach, but the fact that they were there like clockwork. later we learnt that they were infact not volunteers or protestors, but hired help by local 'family values' organizations that had master minded these tactics. so there you have it... we, the pro abortion choice contingent, though numerous were working on our own accord, as volunteers whereas our opposition, was a small, well trained, vociferous, hired help. thus the illusion that there is some sort of a cultural divide.

Gore vs. Bush was also very much along the lines of Clinton vs. the Republican party. Gore had to distance himself from Clinton's personal misgivings but not too distant that he could no longer exploit the credit that was there for his taking over the issues of a robust economy. American politics is quite simple. During elections with no incumbents, the ruling party's candidate often has a tedious task of finding the so called 'Goldilocks zone'. most presidencies, how so ever talented and successful often suffer considerable controversy by the end of their second term. be it eisenhower, nixon, reagan, clinton or bush... thus the incumbent party's new candidate has to be aloof of the current commander in chief and yet not too distant to be able to use the commander to rally support. the problem with mccain is that he is virtually a rubber stamp of the bush administration. furthermore, while he is indeed a true maverick, he will be surrounded by some honest to goodness arsewipes. good luck to him, but one cannot not vote for the obama biden ticket if the economy, global climate change and the war are matters of issue.

indeed mccain is one of the few republicans who has been reasonable about a policy to combat the climate crisis, however, the cap and trade approach is quite wrong and it has had disastrous results in great britain where it has been implemented for some time. the pitfall of this approach is that the organizations themselves are permitted to establish their so called caps, and thus, they have incentive to set their personal caps very high so that the surplus can thus be converted into a trading equity. this is precisely what has happened in great britain where inspite of this cap and trade approach, emissions have increased 12% during the labor party's regime. furthermore, permitted offshore mining of oil is not going to solve any problems and the first barrel of oil will not hit the markets from these prospects any time before 2013, and yet mccain has been outright obfuscating about this matter claiming that some companies might be able to increase oil supply as early as a few months. however, i am quite disappointed that neither of the clients has spoken much about combating high oil prices by reestablishing the previous regulations on commodity tradings that were relaxed by the bush administration in 2001, with support from mccain, that eventually lead to the current fiasco where the high oil prices are almost entirely the result of speculation.

if you think clinton received votes since she is a woman, you are wrong. she received votes because she is a clinton. if anything, less than 1% of those who voted for hillary actually did so since they wanted to see a woman in the oval office (and not on her knees for a change).
