Something fishy bout this Symonds scenario

Some thing seems odd about this whole Symonds thing. Here in Australia the media are making him out to be some sort of wild child who has been on thin ice for some time now. They even suggest (implicitly) that he instigated the Bhajji race row (which wasnt their story earlier this year). Suddenly Symonds is not the innocent victim. What seems fishy about all of this is the timing. Why would Symonds do this ahead of the India series? Obviously he would know how important it is to the team. I have this feeling that there is more to this. This is a ploy by the Aussies to throw a curveball at the Indians, and disrupt their preparations. They figured, they could easily send him back from a series vs Bangladesh if it means they have an opprtunity to play mind games with the Indian team. I can almost guarantee that Symonds will "miraculously" have an "attitude change" just in time for the India series ... however in the meantime, the Indians will be worried about whether he will play or not. It seems the mind games have started early.

They will certainly play him in India. And how will it disrupt the preparations of the Indians, Bharat? Otherwise also I highly doubt if the Indian bowlers plan for the opposition batsmen and even if they do, it happens only when the opposition announces its squad. Right now Indians will be more busy regaining full fitness and form during this period. I wonder how can this be disrupted by reading an amusing story daily in the newspapers regarding Symonds!

Well there are certain players who are expected to be there anyway ... Like im sure India are planning for Ponting, Hayden and so on. Symonds batted well in the test series against us, and is a dangerous player. You dont need to wait for the squad to be announced ... you basically know the Australian team. Besides the spinner, the rest is usually the same (Hayden, Jaques, Ponting, Hussey, Clarke, Symonds, Haddin, Lee, Johnson, spinner, Clark). Its more about just giving the Indians a bit more to think about (will he play? wont he play?)

Symonds factor' is not such a huge concern for our team.Any way he won't be that effective in India as he was in Australia.
no way Dan..he can change the course of the series with a single devastating innings..he is the most destructive of the aussie players so Australia are just bluffing wen they say that they are thinking of coming to India without him

I dont know whether to believe this or not- http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,24278948-2882,00.html TROUBLED Australian allrounder Andrew Symonds will not tour India next month and has been told to seek psychological help as he ponders his future. It is understood Symonds has been asked to complete a rehabilitation program overseen by Cricket Australia medical staff. It may be similar to the one undertaken by fast bowler Shaun Tait, who withdrew from cricket in January citing mental and physical exhaustion. It is also understood Symonds, sent home from Darwin after going fishing instead of attending a compulsory team meeting, is no chance of touring India in October. Australia's squad for the four-Test tour is expected to be named on September 13. Head of selectors Andrew Hilditch yesterday admitted he and his colleagues had yet to discuss Symonds' tour prospects. There is some thought that Symonds may even turn his back on Australian cricket for the riches of the Indian Premier League. His behaviour in Darwin could be the last straw for an Australian side fast losing patience with him. Symonds has regularly been in hot water and on the recent tour of the West Indies was fined for being late for training. For his part, Symonds felt he was not fully supported over the Harbhajan Singh race row last summer, a situation that worsened in the Caribbean where he reportedly felt his teammates were turning against him. As it emerged Symonds had been told to get professional help, Australian coach Tim Nielsen expressed concerns about his attitude to cricket. "The players usually don't miss a thing and they are always early and presented as well as they possibly can," Nielsen said. "When somebody hasn't got the information that they need or hasn't turned up on time it's usually due to the fact they're away from us and the group a little bit, mentally. That always raises concerns." If and when Symonds returns to cricket, it will almost certainly be for Queensland, whose opening Sheffield Shield game is on October 10. Queensland Cricket insists it is committed to giving Symonds whatever help he needs.

papa punter will bring him back .. Punter has saved Symo many times before and he is the one who got Symo included in the test side. Also, Symo gets 500k a year from ACB where as he can make 1.5 mil if he plays a full IPL season. In 08 symo missed half of IPL and thus got only 750k so he will make more money if he just plays IPL for the next 2 years.
