Desi Cartman Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 New Delhi: Remember King Khan flying through the air and escaping from goons in the Farah Khan-made blockbuster Main Hoon Na? In an equally absurd scenario, three alleged goons who robbed a policeman of his service revolver and over Rs 29,000 in cash, escaped simply by riding away in, of all possible gateway vehicle, a cycle rickshaw. The incident took place on Thursday night, barely a kilometre away from the Anand Vihar ISBT. However, their luck ran out soon enough and the police arrested two of them on Saturday. According to the police, the incident occured when constable Virender Kumar, a resident of Dilshad Garden and posted at the Ashok Nagar police station for the past eight months, finished duty and was heading home on the Ghazipur-Seemapuri Road on Thursday. A little away from the Anand Vihar ISBT, he stopped his bike in order to relieve himself around 11.30 pm. ‘‘When he came back to his vehicle, three men crept up from behind and tied a belt around his neck. They dragged him for 100 metres, before pushing him towards the Ghazipur canal. They then beat him up and snatched his 9mm service revolver, five live cartridges, mobile phone and Rs 29,000 in cash. While two men continued the assault, another climbed back onto the road and damaged the cop’s vehicle. The robbers then climbed onto a rickshaw parked nearby and escaped from the spot, disppearing through the bylanes,’’ said Ajay Chaudhry, DCP (East). Bruised and in shock, constable Kumar walked over a kilometre to report the incident to the police after which a manhunt was launched. ‘‘The only clue available to us was the word ‘‘Raj’’ which was painted at the back of the rickshaw,’’ said DCP Chaudhry. Senior officials, however, expressed surprise that the policeman could not protect himself. ‘‘He had been appointed as a PSO to a witness recently. If he cannot handle even a belt-wielding criminal, it puts to question his ability to protect the witness in the important case,’’ said a senior police official :omg:. However, DCP Chaudhry defended his subordinate.‘‘He was beaten up badly and his bike was damaged too. He tried to resist the goons, but failed,’’ he said. On questioned why the constable was carrying such a large sum of money, he said the cash belonged to his sister whom he had visited that evening. :giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle: Moving quickly, the Delhi Police then rounded up over 40 rickshaw pullers and the rickshaw owners. Meanwhile on Saturday, a special team checking traffic rule violations near the CBD grounds in Anand Vihar noticed two youths riding a bike without helmets. Seeing the police, they tried to flee but were apprehended. Following interrogation, a pistol and live cartridge from one of them. He was later identified as Raju.‘‘Raju was even carrying the constable’s licence, which was a complete giveaway. His accomplice Sappu was arrested from the spot. We are on the lookout for the third accused, Dilip, who is absconding. All three are residents of Badaun in UP,’’ said DCP Chaudhry. According to the poluce, it was Raju, the gangleader who had been previously arrested from Timarpur in a robbery case, who planned this bizzare operation. ‘‘Raju told us that they would target individuals travellling alone in the deserted stretches near Anand Vihar bus terminal. They would catch the victim unawares, push them into the canal, beat them up and then disappear from the spot in the rickshaw. This way they attracted least attention. A bike, on the contrary,t hey claimed, would have attracted more attention. They said they desparately wanted to avoid the biker gang tag,’’ said a senior investigating officer. ‘‘We do not know how the gang planned to use the revolver. However, we tracked them before they could attempt another crime,’’ said DCP Chaudhry. He however, refuted all claims that the at least one of the accused was previously a police informer. The police has recovered two cycle-rickshaws and all the robbed items from the accused.

DomainK Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Very interesting. Dumb robbers. Dumb police. How can they select a policeman to rob? Gone crazy? And why a cycle rickshaw? Why not cycles? Cycles run faster than rickshaw. Then why they so disparately wanted not to be called a bikers gang? Brand positioning, huh? And why did they panic when the traffic cop approached them for not wearing helmet? Give him 50 bucks, get rid of him.
beetle Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Domaink....the biker gang has been active recently(the gang leader apparently has been killed) and are responsible for some far more serious crimes like killing in cold blood almost every other day...hence the desperation to be not seen as the notorious "biker gang".
