beetle Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 this is the 8th day.. and we are still without power.. but am not complaining as the employee's of energy provider working 16 hrs a day... and thank god we never lost water supply.. its quiet an experience.. long lines at gas stations.. (some waited for 4 hours and still didnt get anything) traffic signals not working.. trees on roads.. and on houses giant advertising boards down on highways neighbors with generators helping neighbors without power dark nights.. never experienced this in India ... but amazing... a week ago I decided to shave only after we get power.. but after 8 days.. its very itchy.. :icflove:icf love for the stubble bhai! take care....

The value they place on human life and property is simply outstanding... When these storms and other natural calamities strike, there's a genuine feeling of urgency in the govt agencies to do something and prevent inconveniences to the people. Its not just during during natural disasters, it reflects in aspects of their life. If there's one thing I will miss about America, if and when I go back home, its this sense of collective responsibility of people's lives and property in the govt. Btw, good to know you guys are safe and sound. Just weather out the storm a bit longer and everything should be back to normal, hopefully. America might seem to put way more premium on human life and property than India, but trust me when i say that they are nowhere near 'outstanding' in this regard...they are probably near the bottom of the pile amongst developed nations for how much their govt. cares about human life and property...Canada is far better, not to mention, if you really want to see what respect of life, property and collective responsibility is like, there is no better example than Japan.
