I have yet to meet a single person who ACTUALLY likes pre-med and is not in it for the money. well, even though i am CS, i am doing it because i absolutely love it.

At least for the research that I am doing and will be doing, I would've been better served in Comp Eng. (classes in signal processing and areas would've been beneficial).

As a comp engg student, I do the same amount of math and CS stuff as CS majors do (I've done discrete math, combinatorics, computation, algorithms, etc. Last sem I made a whole OS for a P4 from scratch, (no gui obv)). I'm free to take any CS course in the uni, but I also learn stuff like VHDL, signal processing, circuits, semiconductors, EM, etc which CS people dont. Basically, CS can be considered a subset of CompE.

CompE majors do pretty much everything that CS majors do in addition to the 'CompE' stuff. holy, don't you goto Urbana? i'll be applying there for grad school :-D

I am not that worried about getting in. I think I have a pretty good chance there...I am more worried about getting in at the #1-4 places, though :nervous: :pray: I am at Purdue right now, and I am looking to do a PhD in Statistical Machine Learning.

But where did the concept of finite state machine, concepts in programming language you used (procedural, obj. oriented), compiler used, concurrency theory (locks, semaphores ??) etc came from ?? Anyways, here is a quote from Edsger Dijkstra (Remember him from algo course ??), "Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes." So all you are doing here is just learning things about astronomy good enough to design telescopes.:--D

Urbana..I have been there and have a professor there in ME who is a member of my PhD. committee. :-D Couple of friends graduated from CS there last year..Masters.

Then why the heck they have a separate CS degree at your university ?? I am sorry, but you don't make sense. If at your university, CE includes CS, then does that mean students interested in CS graduate with less units than CE. Also, if you take all CS courses, aren't you graduating in CS ? What ends up happening at most universities is that introductory CS courses are tailored for both CS/CE students. Most universities offer advanced CS courses.
