A disaster waiting to happen?

With the spate of terror attacks happening in the country, my mortal fear really has been, whether it is only a matter of time before the terror that has been unleashed in the capital will soon spread to other cities. Of course, its not as though other cities havent been affected by terror incidents so far. B'lore was only recently hit and few weeks before that, even the normally peaceful Jaipur was hit. I somehow feel the next target could be the busy shopping district of Chennai, which have so far, escaped the terrorists' wrath. Those who are from Chennai, or lived in Chennai for a decent amount of time, will clearly know that name 'Ranganathan Street'. It is almost like the Main street for shoppers, located in heart of the city, in the bustling locales of T.Nagar. Almost every major mass-scale shopping house, has a presence there. You wouldnt find a Mercedez car showroom or an Apple store there, but most of the shops there cater to the lower-income to the middle class category, which is why the crowds there can become unbelievably high. As you can see from the images, even on normal shopping days, the crowd of shoppers can get so high that its almost impossible to drive a vehicle through there. And even if you walk, you'll be constantly shoved around by the sea of people around you. I really do fear to think what could potentially happen, if a terror incident happened here. The fatalities, even from a single suicide bomber could run into the 100s, EASILY. And worse, because this is, quite literally, the commercial capital of Chennai, any attack there can easily cripple of the local economy and the shoppers' confidence. I just hope the police and the local law-enforcement take enough precautionary steps to prevent such sort of attacks happening in any Indian city for that matter, not just Chennai. But, I am not sure how much they can do really. They couldnt possibly frisk every one who comes to these places, nor could they install effective monitoring tools to keep a watch on everyone. I am afraid, that till this problem is dealt with at its roots, these innocent civilians, who work hard during the day and spend their money on themselves in these places in the night, are just sitting ducks.

Virtually every big city has got areas which are packed to capacity on any given day. Mostly shoppers. If the terrorists are at large and are discreet, they will never run out of target areas.

But us Indians are very fast in getting "accustomed" to situations and not put pressure on govt, to correct these situations or co-operate with Govt. I hope that will change with situations like this.
