It's nice to have a selector who is actually close to his team... Don't want a selector to close. May effect decision making. If tough decisions have to be made and players he is close to need to be axed then his closeness may impair objective and correct decisions being made. Do not like the fact he is so pally with the players. He is the selctor and needs to be a bit detached! Link to comment

Dinx - the Jinx Posted October 22, 2008 Share Posted October 22, 2008 well.. being close will help him communicate with the player properly.. wen someone needs to be dropped, he can convey the message in a better way and also tell what the player needs to do to make a come back... this will make the player realize where his weakness lies, enabling him to back, correct himself and comeback again... with his persona players wont feel cheated or hard done.. this is definitely a welcome attitude from cheeka, which ws missing in prev selection panels, which communicated to the dropped players through the media rather than directly... This selection committee has nothing radically new compared to the previous one. So lets not get too overboard. But realistically speaking, we can potentially win 3 major series' in the next 6 months. Given the start we've had, we should definitely beat Aus in this one. Eng will probably pose a bigger challenge but we should prevail and Pakistan shouldnt be too difficult either. And its about time we won too, we havent won a test series in over a year!
