graphic23 Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Bigtime fan here. Yuvvraaj despite some of the "rave" reviews has been kind of disappointing for me. Apart from a couple of songs, the other ones are not very impressive and don't have Rahman's usual brilliant orchestration. Have been listening to his songs (both Hindi and Tamil/Telugu) since Roja and nearly 50% of all my collection are Rahman's hits. Attended his concert here in Chicago last year as well. My favorite composer, and to be honest, a sort of a role model in terms of his composure, his behavior, etc. People like Anu Malik may have something bad to say about him but honestly, I will remain a fan of Rahman for his great contributions to Indian music - and as long as keeps churning out tunes like Roobaroo, Kabhi Kabhi (from Jaane Tu.. ), and his most recent favorite composition of mine, Meherbaan from Ada, I don't think anyone can take the mantle from his as the best music composer from India. Obviously, Roja, Bombay, Dil Se, Taal, Lagaan, Yuva, RDB, Guru,etc. are terrific hits. But some of his music down south (where I'm from) like Kandukondein Kandukondein, Iruvar, Sivaji, Indian, Boys, etc. are all terrific pieces of music (commercial or otherwise). Back to the original question asked, I can't have one single favorite song. But from his recent releases, my favorite ones are Meherbaan and also Ishq Ada for their calming and unique sounds, respectively. One of his best orchestrations for me is the "Jaage Hain.." from Guru as well.
satishg Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 he has delivered some timeless classics in tamil music..i just cant circle down one song and say that this is my favorite..he is an absolute genius.. and yes i did listen to Yuvaraj..he has experimented a lot in that album..a lot of funky tunes and the voice modulation by some singers are really good..but that album hasn grown on me yet..guess it will take repeated hearings to get addicted to just like all ARR albums..

satishg Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 In one of his interview he had said that given a chance he might go back and change one song in all his movies except Roja..because Roja is his near perfection and there is nothing that he can change or add to make it even more mesmerizing
