Majority of whites voted for Mccain. While ethnics of 36% of population massivley voted for Obama. Thus whites went for Mccain and non whites by a massive margin went for Obama. Obama wins cos the ethnic majority population is getting larger! Racial divide is still very much there. But the demographics are changing so much that in 50 years time it will be a suprise if a white person wins. As black, hispanic and aisan vote will be the deciding factor more and more!

Mr Obama has succeeded in mobilising African-American voters to his cause to an unprecedented extent, although they were already strongly Democratic. He won 95% of the black vote, compared to just 4% for Mr McCain. And he has also built up a big advantage among Hispanic voters, whom Mr Bush partly succeeded in winning over in 2004. The Democrats led 66% to 31% among these voters, their best-ever result, compared to a 60-40 split in 2004. Mr McCain led among white voters, by 55% to 43%, but Mr Obama cut the Republican lead among this group compared with the 2004 election.

C'mon, it is not enough to win with only non-white votes in USA. He has got close to 50% of white votes and a major portion of minority votes. He also scored among women and the youth. Youth came in large numbers for this poll. So, winning this election has been a landmark, but on the flip side anybody would have won after 8 years of Bush!

Soo many blacks voted Obama just because he is black.. he was judged by his color of the skin... see the irony here?? no country can be free 100 % .. just cuz a black man won an election doesnt mean ONLY NOW we are free.. its like saying Christians in India is not free because there has been no Christian president in India.. people in US is as free yesterday as today.. nothing has changed.. now days of MLK were different...

To me....it brought a tear to my eye....200 years of slavery....and the subjugation of black-americans....and the putting-down of black-americans....and the criminalisation of black-americans...enough brother...enough...they did not bring themselves from Africa in chains...no...that is the slave-traders....who had human cargo in inimaginable circumstance...then they worked them like animals in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (WHITE)...then the had the civil law (about slavery it seems...hah!)... Today...there is a black american persident. About F*ucking time!

It is definitely a water shed moment in US racial relations just for the symbolism involved. People (blacks) who till their 40's or 50's did not have voting rights, voted yesterday for a black contender. For those guys this means a lott.
