To be fair to Delhi, their best players-Sehwag, Gambhir, Ishant sharma have been on national duty most of time. it is not easy to replace these quality players.they will bounce back.

Other teams have also lost int'l players to the national squad. Delhi isn't the only one with a weakened side, and other teams with more depth are simply handling themselves better.

And they still should have been able to qualify for the quarters... even without those guys...

Only genuine loss for Delhi was GG. If they cannot cope one loss then they will never lift the trophy again. Mumbai's success has been due to consistent run by Rahane (carrying on from where he left off in previous year), total FTB Wasim Jaffaaa and inclusion of Dhawal Kulkarni. Kulkarni has somewhat 'revived' Mumbai, if you can say that :--D All in all, chup kar ja amits...baap toh baap hi hota hain :yay:

But the difference was that people stepped up. Rahane had a PHENOMENAL season to build on an impressive one last year, Dhawal did a phenomenal job and guys like Powar, Jaffer, Kukreja, Waingarkar and Rahil Shaikh all stood up to fill the breach. When Delhi lost big names of similar stature, NOBODY stood up. Delhi's issue this season wasn't that Ishant and Gambhir were missing, it was that their top wicket taker last season - Pradeep Sangwan - absolutely sucked this time around with 18 wickets at an average of 38. Nehra took 3 wickets in 2 games averaging 43, Chetanya Nanda who had done so well last year averaged upwards of 50 per wicket for 13 wickets this eason. If you look at Delhi's results here, they made runs in a lot of games. Massive leads v. Rajasthan, Punjab and Saurashtra, and only one of those games was won. Against even Hyderabad they struggled to take wickets. Batting was not the issue here, Sehwag and Gambhir's absence were not concerns as four guys ended up averaging over 50 with the bat and without them they still made plenty of runs. The problem was that all the mainstay bowlers who had been the key to the last Ranji Trophy failed to show up for the season, and the only bowling success came on a minefield of a wicket where the scores were all in the 100-odd or double digit range. Bombay has far more depth - guys like Rahil Shaikh and Waingankar are just stepping into the side to fill in and taking bunches of wickets, and this is why there's an 11 point gap in the table. Won 5, drew 2 versus won 2, drew 5. Bring on the quarters. :D
