Rajiv Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 Rice Cooker is to eliminate the timing and measurement, in addition the "warm" feature is pretty good. Idli maker - now I found a innovation to use that in my steamer, cooks em much easier than the regular idli maker

A rice cooker (according to wiki) does not take care of measurement. You still have to ensure that the amount of rice and water is in the right proportions. A microwave takes care of timing and warming it later if you want.
fineleg Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 rice cooker is quite cool infact. u shud get one.

The rice cooker book shows the proper measurement and water amount, u can even cook a standalone bhiryani
Holysmoke Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Dude, the measurement is not all that hard.. it doesnt have to be "perfect".. the rice still tastes like rice
fineleg Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 the rice has to be neither overcooked nor undercooked...thats where the rice cooker helps

THX_1138 Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 just need a expresso machine to complete the collection and I can be in Martha Stewart Show These appliances really help a lot - steamer, griller and I really enjoy fresh baked whole wheat bread. In Mumbai, there used to be a bakery right at the corner and they used to have home delivery, gosh u miss those services here unless ur in NYC (sic) you mean espresso... and the only reason i know that is because i am shopping for one too and my s.o. gave me quite a bit of lip for calling it 'express-o'.
Rajiv Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 (sic) you mean espresso... and the only reason i know that is because i am shopping for one too and my s.o. gave me quite a bit of lip for calling it 'express-o'. it was tongue in cheek - an Indian ordering espresso says expresso ( i need it quickly )
THX_1138 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 You need more water if it's crumbing that easily. Here's a pic of one of mine - Italian herbs (3/4 white flour, 1/4 whole wheat flour with some oregano, rosemary, dried basil and crushed pine nuts mixed into the dough). Nothing wrong with rich bread btw. Throw some good cured meat (proscuitto, serrano ham, capicolla, some other good salami etc) in there, a bit of good cheese, a drizzle of olive oil and some herbs. bid maast slice kata! whats your recipe? i am going to try it tonight.
THX_1138 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 crushed pinenuts? where do i get that from?
