Rajiv Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I am considering one, just wondering how much hassle it is for the ingredients? 1) Fresh Baked 2) Dont have goto the store just for a pack
Mr. Wicket Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Get one. Very, very handy - esp. if you buy flour in bulk (whole wheat and white) and keep a bottle of yeast in the fridge around at most times. Doesn't take long to set up, and it beats the hell out of store bought bread. Ever since I started using once, I've never bought bread from stores and only gone to bakeries once or twice.
fineleg Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 any good brands or models? recommendations?
Rajiv Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 Thanx Salil I am Considering Cusinart, I just checked the PDF booklet..I haven't seen as many chicken recipes than bread recipes I prefer Multi-Grain Wheat Bread, so the stuff is easily available right? like what do you use for Whole Wheat?
THX_1138 Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 we used to bake our own bread... but there are some problems: for one, the bread is often a bit too rich for our palates and diets. not to mention that it is an absolute ***** to slice and even with the finest bread knife you are left with enough crumbs to feed all of australia.
Holysmoke Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 there are bread makers? WTF, i need to see the real world once in a while

The 'Breadman' machines are awesome, IMO. For multi-grain - that's very easy. You just add in the appropriate amts of each type of flour, yeast and other ingredients, programme the machine and it automatically warms and kneads it, lets it rise and then bakes. I've done everything from sourdough to Italian herb to multi grain/whole wheat with it. Key is just buying the right grains and flours at the supermarkets (but these days I just make sure there's a good part of a packet of white flour and whole-grain flour at home).
Cricketics Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 how long do these home made breadz stay good until? i mean the expiry and stuff??? never tried such stuff. don't even know anyone who used to do all this. Just heard one though.. i,e Salil, and a new member in the club soon that is Rajev

Here's a pic of one of mine - Italian herbs (3/4 white flour, 1/4 whole wheat flour with some oregano, rosemary, dried basil and crushed pine nuts mixed into the dough). Nothing wrong with rich bread btw. Throw some good cured meat (proscuitto, serrano ham, capicolla, some other good salami etc) in there, a bit of good cheese, a drizzle of olive oil and some herbs.
Mr. Wicket Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 how long do these home made breadz stay good until? The longest I've ever left them uneaten is about 4 days, and they still were good then... maybe a little on the dry side (but with bread you expect that), but still fine.

Never understood why anyone would get a rice cooker
