coffee_rules Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/dec/12/mumbai-arundhati-roy The monster in the mirror http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2008/12/12/1229108034665/arundhati_roy_140x140.jpg With a person of limited literary skills, she is still be called a writer for writing such rubbish. She will be a hero among the liberals.. The Mumbai attacks are only the most recent of a spate of terrorist attacks on Indian towns and cities this year. Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Guwahati, Jaipur and Malegaon have all seen serial bomb blasts in which hundreds of ordinary people have been killed and wounded. If the police are right about the people they have arrested as suspects, both Hindu and Muslim, all Indian nationals, it obviously indicates that something's going very badly wrong in this country. .... We're told one of these hotels is an icon of the city of Mumbai. That's absolutely true. It's an icon of the easy, obscene injustice that ordinary Indians endure every day. ... ... It then, with the best of intentions I'm sure, informed its readers that on the international hunger index, India ranked below Sudan and Somalia. .... This, then, is the larger historical context of terrorism in the subcontinent and of the Mumbai attacks. It shouldn't surprise us that Hafiz Saeed of the Lashkar-e-Taiba is from Shimla (India) and LK Advani of the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh is from Sindh (Pakistan). ---- On the November 25 newspapers reported that the ATS was investigating the high profile VHP Chief Pravin Togadia's possible role in the Malegaon blasts. The next day, in an extraordinary twist of fate, Hemant Karkare was killed in the Mumbai Attacks. The chances are that the new chief whoever he is, will find it hard to withstand the political pressure that is bound to be brought on him over the Malegaon investigation. ... Homeland Security has cost the US government billions of dollars. Few countries, certainly not India, can afford that sort of price tag. But even if we could, the fact is that this vast homeland of ours cannot be secured or policed in the way the United States has been. It's not that kind of homeland. We have a hostile nuclear weapons state that is slowly spinning out of control as a neighbour, we have a military occupation in Kashmir and a shamefully persecuted, impoverished minority of more than 150 million Muslims who are being targeted as a community and pushed to the wall, whose young see no justice on the horizon, and who, were they to totally lose hope and radicalise, end up as a threat not just to India, but to the whole world. If ten men can hold off the NSG commandos, and the police for three days, and if it takes half a million soldiers to hold down the Kashmir valley, do the math. What kind of Homeland Security can secure India? Apparently, no proof is needed to indict the so-called Hindu terrorists. The same ATS is targetting innocent muslims. So,
Brainfade Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 While there is a lot there that I don't agree with, she makes some good points: If you were watching television you may not have heard that ordinary people too died in Mumbai. They were mowed down in a busy railway station and a public hospital. The terrorists did not distinguish between poor and rich. They killed both with equal cold-bloodedness. The Indian media, however, was transfixed by the rising tide of horror that breached the glittering barricades of India Shining and spread its stench in the marbled lobbies and crystal ballrooms of two incredibly luxurious hotels and a small Jewish centre. We're told one of these hotels is an icon of the city of Mumbai. That's absolutely true. It's an icon of the easy, obscene injustice that ordinary Indians endure every day. On a day when the newspapers were full of moving obituaries by beautiful people about the hotel rooms they had stayed in, the gourmet restaurants they loved (ironically one was called Kandahar), and the staff who served them, The media's focus on the "internationals" was nauseating. It quite possibly had a to do with the duration of the stand-offs, but the CST victims and the other poor folks who were killed on the street were ignored.
punjabi_khota Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 ...somebody should take out a supari on her name...
THX_1138 Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 ...somebody should take out a supari on her name... well then you are no better than dawood. I think Arunadhiti Roy, like our own very sandest and dada rocks suffers from amalgamating her message with unsolicited rhetoric. Her message of introspection, restrain, and perseverance is indeed nobel, but at times her rhetoric that all our problems are indigenous, is outright incorrect.

The problem is not just the rhetoric. The problem is that at this time, when the need is to acknowledge the fact Muslim terrorists are wreaking havoc, she is equating it with the hindu terrorism. Talking about RSS and Taliban/LET in the same breath. Talking about 150 million so called 'deprived' Muslims..This is pure bullshit.
milkman Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 What a load of bullshit she types. She is not worth my time so I won't even bother highlighting the big holes in her article. Send her to Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia.....that would shut her up. Has she converted to great religion of peace yet? :finger: To those who think she is really being neutral and balanced please pull this finger :finger: out of your backside.
Predator_05 Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 'Arundhatterimaaki'...excellent. :giggle:
Desi Cartman Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 if she was to write as neutral journalist then no one would give her any importance .. the reason her article is posted here is because she is *different* PS: :finger:
sandtest Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Folks this is nothing! Suzzane (Arundhati) Roy has past history of using her freedom of expression and some vested interests in western media as launchpad to malign India and peddle outright anti-India propaganda. her past rants which received huge applause from vested interest groups in west are -- (1) Remarks that Indian nuclear tests are a National shame (2) Her begotted and shameful remarks that Indian parliament attack was stage managed by "Hindutva" BJP government so that they can mobilise army on border! No Indian should ever forguive her for this. (3) Her total support to Kashmiri terrorist groups (Paki sponsored seperatist leaders) of Hurriyat in Kashmir. (4) Her rants and complain to Amnesty and other gora funded groups that how Afzal guru (a convicted terrorist) is not served Biryani in jail, her sympathy for LeT terrorists locked up in jail- under pretention that treatment is not good and food is not same yada yada. No wonders she receives gora sponsored awards for serving them in subverting and damaging Indian national interests.
sandtest Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Once again, I ask, is it only BJPs responsibility to come out and tackle anti-India preachers like Arundirty? Where is Congress party??...why there is always silence from their leaders?? Do Congress party believs in INDIAN Constitution or are their leaders too afraid of "Holy Family" to make any independent judgement. here Suzzane Roy is once again openly mocking Indian Judicial system and India's highest Supreme court by declaring jeehadi terrorist Afzal as war-prisoner. Can't she be tried for insulting Judiciary? Where are so called NGO's? No PIL? Why are they ignoring her. BJP flays Arundhati for defending Afzal New Delhi: BJP on Saturday lashed out at Booker prize-winner Arundhati Roy for referring to Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal as a prisoner-of-war. "People like Roy and others while defending Afzal can go to such an extent to suggest that he is a prisoner-of-war but the fact is the author herself is a prisoner of her own dogma. Her comments are preposterous and do not lie in national interest," BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said. His comments came in the wake of Arundhati's article on the Parliament attack in an English magazine. "No country has ever witnessed such kind of defense of a terrorist. They have gone beyond an academic discussion on capital punishment," the BJP leader said. In her article, Arundhati had written, "On the whole, most Kashmiris see Mohammad Afzal as a sort of prisoner-of-war being tried in the courts of an occupying power. (Which it undoubtedly is)." The BJP leader also accused Arundhati, a rights activist, of selectively citing portions of court rulings over Afzal in support of her alleged defense of the death-row prisoner. "The key question is why then she had not come in support of Afzal while he was being tried," Javadekar said. is there any difference between her and Lunatic Zaid hamid -- judge by yourself : Is Pakistan is responsible? Having closely looked at the Batla house encounter and Parliament attacks, I am not ready to believe what anyone says. I have to see and think for myself. I am not prepared to believe anything. On the other hand, I am prepared to believe anything http://ibnlive.in.com/news/interview-arundhati-roy-rubbishes-potalike-law/80664-3.html

Exactly. Booker and some other Gora sponsored prizes, I somehow feel are directed towards promoting Leftism in non-western countries to suppress nationalist sentiments. Very serious if these vested interests succeed since such awards give unwanted legitimacy to arundirty and gang. I am not surprised given the current GOI leadreship, there will be any effort to counter this. How about India's own asian version of Patel or Shivaji awards to foreigners?

She is born apologetic and looks like a loner. See the problem is just not limited till that. The rot is much deeper than you or me can imagine. here is just a tip of the iceberg -- This Arundhati is a niece of Pronoy Roy -- Owner of India's one of the most private influencial News Channel - NDTV. Now how many Indians know this, so that they can understand whenever next time Barkhaa Dutt barks on NDTV promoting her agenda of People-to-People contact with Pakis, she is actually reciting Arundhati and Cos. subtle subversion agenda.
Brainfade Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 On a somewhat related note: Watching Saregama 2009 the other night, Baba Ramdev was a guest. I don't care much for the "Swamiji/philosopher" community, but the man surprised me with statements such as (and I paraphrase): "Is ka hal pranayam ya kisi yog main nahin hain." "Ab Sardar Patel aur Subhash Chandra Bose jaise sakht netayon ki zaroorat hai." "Goli ka jawab goli se dena hoga." More power to this Baba! Contrast him with Deepak Chopra who sit here in the luxury of the West, and wax eloquent about "love" for all on Larry King live.
