Ram Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 MM, although I find this boycotting of Pak good a bit extreme ( as I wouldn't have the tme to look at the labels ) but let me address your other point You have given a broad view to this, but frankly when was the last a redneck came to India as a suicide bomber? and considering that we all have some hypocrisy, yes that's a fact; there is not a single human being is not duplicate in nature. Forget countries, you might be sitting next to your relative and he or she must have sinned or done something wrong in their life time, so what do you ; you just stop talking to them. Anywhere you go, you support or spend for something which will be used for something you don't know. If that's the case we should just forget about the people who attacked India, I mean why are we blaming Pakistan as they were just 10 people right You are trying to counter something which s very generic in nature, but you have to consider emotions and anguish at the same time, and we know who caused it Rajeev, whether Pakistan is to blame for these attacks or not is an entirely different debate. I am trying to address a completely different point, a one where people claim moral high-ground, merely because 'they boycott Pakistani made goods'. Whether we like it or not, all of us are part of the 'Global terror supply chain', as I would like to call it. Even the Gas that we buy, comes from the middle east, whose Sheikhs end up donating millions of dollars to Islamic charities that fund terrorism.
Guest dada_rocks Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 I used to have some acquiantances in school days not anymore I try to keep away from scums
Guest dada_rocks Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 For those who say they boycott goods made in Pakistan or Pakistani people, I'd say there's an element of duplicity in all of you. Most of all, its a complete farce for Indians living in North America ( more specifically in the U.S), a country which is the biggest war-criminal of this century, a country which waged two illegal wars that has resulted in the deaths of 3,00,000 innocent civilians and continues to support a state sponsored genocide that is carried out by Israel in Palestinian territories, to say that 'I'll boycott so-and-so nation's goods because they carry out anti-India activities'. Isnt that a complete joke? Many of you who say that probably work here and pay taxes to the U.S treasury and thats the same money the U.S Defence department uses to fund its illegal war. So, according to this, its o.k for you guys to indirectly 'support' or be passive to American killings innocent of civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan, while its not O.K to be part of any activity that benefits Pakistan economically? If you support humanity, you support it fully. You just dont support humanity 'from one particular country'. Of course, now that I have said that, I am all ready and prepared to be called anything from Islam sympathizer to India-hater. Come on guys, am waiting. You ar on your BS drive oince again do you even get the gist of OP. noone is here anti-war people are worried about India and so oviusly care about countries who work solely against indian interest..
Rajiv Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 ...yo see according to them, they release some anger by refusing to buy something which they can see - its impossible to boycott everything I'll give you an example - we had this white wacko lady at my last job who was apparently a dog lover. Our company was based in China with a chinese boss, one fine day she read in the paper http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14139027/ That was it, she put aside her assignment and is on phone with her car mechanic to confirm if her tyres are Made in Korea or Made in China, I had to hear 2 ladies give every damm abuse in the book to the Chinese while being on Chinese payroll ..and guess what the dumb lady does, she orders Chinese for lunch. I had to say something, her argument was that the produce is Canadian She did get fired apparently but you get the point

Ram Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 And it shocking to think some of us can discriminate between people, merely because they happen to be Pakistani. After all, isnt it the same discrimination thats the biggest sin of humanity? Wasnt it the same discrimination that convinced the Australian govt. that the Indian Muslim doctor Mohammed Haneef was part of a larger terrorist ring, that they arrested him on flimsy evidence and destroyed his entire livelihood and caused hours and hours of trauma and tears to his just-now-became-mother wife? Wasnt this the same discrimination the led to the London police to gun down an innocent Brazilian on the London tube? Why? The world works both ways and most of us dont even realize that. How would any one of you feel if you're being discriminated at your workplace, merely because of the color of your skin? Oh hang on.. No one's supposed to ask these questions right... :haha:

And your example about the lady in your workplace just goes on to show how duplicit people can get. As long as it suits them I suppose.
Guest dada_rocks Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Niether would I. I was just trying to address some generic questions, not specific instances. Bumper Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Sriram, am afraid you are complicating a simple issue. It is perfectly defensible to boycott anything Pakistani, without looking like hypocrites. The boycott need not be one driven by principle, but could be one intended to send a strong message to our padosees. I completely abhor anything Pakistani these days (esp after the Mumbai attacks), as i feel angry and helpless about the mountain of evidence that has emerged from the Mumbai investigation not amounting to any action from their govt. I want to express my displeasure and disapproval of such inaction in ways I consider are within my powers. I cannot go & arrest Lashkar militants, but i can very well stop buying goods that contribute to the economy of the country that hosts these jihadis. Whats wrong with that ? Why should i boycott the US ? For enriching the Indian economy and providing us job opportunities? Iraqis are welcome to not buy anything made in the US. I dont care. We dont need to be selfless enough to make our buying decisions based on humanitarian grounds. On chinese goods, what China does/did is a time honored military tactic (to support your enemy's enemy). Every country engages in such tactics. The way i look at this issue, if Pakistan did not exist in this world, 90% of all terrorist activities in India will stop. In that case China is irrelevant. Hence I consider any boycott on Pakistan, very much justified.
Guest dada_rocks Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 he always complicates things withut much knowledge or credence it's nothing new.. just scratch a little and all those nonsensical lecturing gets exposed.

We dont need to be selfless enough to make our buying decisions based on humanitarian grounds. This is where the double standards arise, as far as I am concerned. According to your logic, you wont support the killer (Pakistan), if the person being killed is Indian, while it isnt incumbent upon you to do the same, if the killer (US) is killing non-Indians? (Iraqis, Afghanistan, Palestinians). What kind of twisted morality is that? Obviously, your decision to boycott Pakistani goods is a moral one, something you do to answer the call of your conscience. Then, why the inconsistency? I dont have a problem with people taking a moral stand on issues, as long they're 100% consistent across the board. Of course, you can always say charity begins at home and I would like address Indian concerns first, but that argument isnt valid here, especially since its individual morality that is in question. Bear in mind, I havent even gone to the aspect of US support to the VERY same Pakistani jehadi groups in the past, when they turned a blind-eye to all Islamic extremism. Its only when 9/11 happened that they changed the tune. So, does that mean we absolve US of all blame from past deeds? On chinese goods' date=' what China does/did is a time honored military tactic (to support your enemy's enemy). Every country engages in such tactics. The way i look at this issue, if Pakistan did not exist in this world, 90% of all terrorist activities in India will stop. In that case China is irrelevant. Hence I consider any boycott on Pakistan, very much justified.[/quote'] Well, thats just an hypothetical scenario. Your explanation of China 'supporting an enemy's enemy' still doesnt account for the fact that why you, as an individual, arent applying the same set of moral standards, when it comes to Chinese. After all, isnt China also covertly responsible for empowering Pakistan, militarily and econmically, which in turn helps them to strike at us? Bear in mind, I aint saying 'Dont boycott Pakistani goods'. By all means do, everyone is entitled to have their moral standpoint. But be consistent in your application of those stands, or else, your claims to moral highground will sound a bit hollow.
