Do you still greet/meet the same, even though our issues are with Pak Govt and not typically the civilians ( although technically they possess the same hate ) I don't have any Pak friends here, but it has made a difference where I take my business elsewhere if see a Pakistani. Last week I took my car for some check up and instead of explaining to me in mechanical terms the guys used words like "khuda kasam and tokal allah" like 5 times over and over, I didn't wanna start a religious war and just thanks I will be back ( I never figured the point of being godly with me when a car needs simple oil change and overall checkup ) The meat shops here are owned by Punjabi's ( thank god ) unlike Toronto where ,pst f them were owned by Pakistanis and had the donation boxes ( and u know where that money goes ) but point is even though u would like to separate civilians its hard to do so - the moment you hear that Pakistani urdu accent, its just angers me Has your attitude/relationship changed?

fineleg Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 One of the person living nearby is a Pak. No outward change in attitude. Still say hi, and they have a 3 year old kid - and still smile and say hello to the kid. Not a big change.

I avoid Pak-made stuff - it is really easy to do (unlike Made-in-China stuff). If someone gifts me a t-shirt or something that was made in Pak, it goes to Goodwill straight away. There are 2 ways of looking at it: (a) One is my way - why support their economy when they are trying to destabilize us? (b) The opposite view - that some of my other Indian friends have - if we gave their economy a boost, they will have better employment rates, a more vibrant financial and governmental system, less vagrant youth, and therefore fewer terrorists. Eh ..... am not so sure.

For example I go out of my way to buy Israeli dates instead of Turkish or Arab dates. I try to buy as many "Made in India" products as I can. Try to pick tea, nuts etc that have been sourced from India instead of China. I let my wallet do the talking. After all, China is more dangerous than is Pakistan. My experiment lasted all of 2 days. It is near-impossible. What about gasoline? Impossible to avoid ME-gasoline. All that said, I have experienced good social interactions with many Pakistani people - in fact, I have met a lot of Pakistani and ME individuals with whom I'd prefer to maintain friendships than with a lot of the Indian people I know. It is not fair to judge someone based on the country of origin.

This is before kargil etc and I was new here so I thought after all he is also trying to earn a living so why should I be worried where he is from. When I saw that he was handing out pamphlets for a rally against MY country .. I just looked at him and said "U know what ... I dont wanna buy stuff from u ... Thanks". He probably thought I was a paki and he felt a little odd as well .. anyway me n my friend came out and made sure he heard us say "b.K.L Movies India ki copy kurkay bachtay hain fir bhi itni akad .. bhikari salay" I didnt say it on his face but we made sure they heard us ...

Most of all, its a complete farce for Indians living in North America ( more specifically in the U.S), a country which is the biggest war-criminal of this century, a country which waged two illegal wars that has resulted in the deaths of 3,00,000 innocent civilians and continues to support a state sponsored genocide that is carried out by Israel in Palestinian territories, to say that 'I'll boycott so-and-so nation's goods because they carry out anti-India activities'. Isnt that a complete joke? Many of you who say that probably work here and pay taxes to the U.S treasury and thats the same money the U.S Defence department uses to fund its illegal war. So, according to this, its o.k for you guys to indirectly 'support' or be passive to American killings innocent of civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan, while its not O.K to be part of any activity that benefits Pakistan economically? If you support humanity, you support it fully. You just dont support humanity 'from one particular country'. Of course, now that I have said that, I am all ready and prepared to be called anything from Islam sympathizer to India-hater. Come on guys, am waiting.
Rajiv Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 MM, although I find this boycotting of Pak good a bit extreme ( as I wouldn't have the tme to look at the labels ) but let me address your other point You have given a broad view to this, but frankly when was the last a redneck came to India as a suicide bomber? and considering that we all have some hypocrisy, yes that's a fact; there is not a single human being is not duplicate in nature. Forget countries, you might be sitting next to your relative and he or she must have sinned or done something wrong in their life time, so what do you ; you just stop talking to them. Anywhere you go, you support or spend for something which will be used for something you don't know. If that's the case we should just forget about the people who attacked India, I mean why are we blaming Pakistan as they were just 10 people right You are trying to counter something which s very generic in nature, but you have to consider emotions and anguish at the same time, and we know who caused it
Ram Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 And above and beyond all that, we can proudly say 'Oh hell, I am boycotting anything Pakistani' coz quite frankly we can afford to since; 1) Pakistani goods form VERY little component of what we use in our daily lives. 2) There are other, equivalent and cost-effective alternatives. If I prove to all of you of how the Chinese have all along provided covert support to the Pakistani military program and helped them develop their nuclear warheads and long-range missiles, the same weapons that Pakistan uses to threaten India, will you all boycott everything's that Chinese? Of course you wont, coz it will hurt the purse wont it? Who wouldnt want to buy a pair of Chinese made Nike running shoes for $15? When ideology and hard-economics clash, that is when the difference between the true ideologists and fake ones become clearer.
