DomainK
india are planning to go with 4 seamers because of the pitch-very interesting. No way.....with M & M, there will be spinning wickets. Besides they know that India's pace bowling is stronger than India's spin bowling. I think we will see some square turning tracks. Link to comment
cowboysfan
Pitch & conditions The captains expect a seaming pitch, which explains India's strategy to play as many as four seamers. The weather is likely to be clear as well, and the team winning the toss might want to put the opposition in. according to cricinfo.i would feel better if they picked ojha or jadeja too. Show_stopper
I think 3 pacers plus Jadeja/Ojha must be the way..however won't be too dejected if they go in with the 4th seamer in DAMBULLA. But the 4th one has got to be Irfan, not Praveen. Link to comment

Show_stopper
because we need more batting depth? Actually no..Praveen is a complete waste of space if he isn't gonna use the new ball, which he obviously won't. You can say the same of Irfan i guess, but i think he can atleast do a better job then Praveen.Ofcourse batting is handy. Link to comment

cowboysfan
if we get ahead in the series then all our reserves might play more than one game which is actually very good. Link to comment
The Outsider
Yes, he is a very good prospect. Always found him more threatening than Chawla, even though I have a preference for wrist spinners. But this guy gets a decent amount of drift to be successful even on some of the flatter tracks we see around. And what better place for a spinner to be assured of 5 consecutive ODIs than Sri Lanka. cochise
Imagine that! Who would have said that he has been more consistent dropping catches in the last few years than in his batting? Hope he turns it all around in NZ...even if it is for his swansong. Link to comment

More... India get Sehwag boost for second Lanka ODI 12 hours ago COLOMBO (AFP) — Hard-hitting Indian opener Virender Sehwag has been declared fit for the second one-day international against Sri Lanka starting here on Saturday. Sehwag, who missed the last match in Dambulla on Wednesday due to a back injury, batted more than half an hour in the nets on Friday. He has so far scored 6,124 runs in 196 one-dayers with nine hundreds and 33 half-centuries. "He (Sehwag) is fit. He made way for a batsman in the first game and a batsman will miss out here," India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni told reporters on the eve of the day-night match. The opener is likely to replace middle-order batsman Rohit Sharma, who scored an unbeaten 25 in his team's six-wicket win in Dambulla. Sehwag's return will also give his captain more bowling options as he has bagged 84 wickets with his part-time off-spin. Although India rarely looked in trouble chasing a 247-run target in the last match, Dhoni said his side still needed to improve upon their performance. "There are areas we need to work on. There is a scope for improvement, but a good sign is we are not relying on any individual to win matches," said Dhoni, who led his team to a 3-2 series win on their last tour here in August 2008. "If one of our top four batsman can stay at the crease till the end it will be good for others as their spinners are good and can make it tough for new batsmen. That we have to keep in mind as a team. "I think chasing anything over 250 will be difficult if the wicket behaves like it did the last time." Sri Lanka's off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is just two wickets short of surpassing former Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram's world record of 502. Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene said he did not think his spinners bowled badly in the last game. "I think they bowled pretty well. It was just that we did not put enough pressure on their batsmen. India did not have to take any risks," he said. "I am also quite happy with our batting effort. We have been getting high scores in the last few games, with the top-order batsmen among runs." Veteran opener Sanath Jayasuriya cracked an impressive 107 in Dambulla and wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara a solid 44 at the number-three position to help them post 246-7. "We'll try to keep India under pressure and there is no other motivation than to beat a side which is doing very well," said Jayawardene.
