Sri Lanka have revised the itinerary for their home one-day series against India starting later this month, the Indian board said on Thursday. Four of the five ODIs will now be played in Colombo with the second and third games deferred by a day. The hastily arranged series fills the gap left by India's cancelled tour to Pakistan in the aftermath of militant attacks in Mumbai last November. Revised itinerary here....

Cricket: Nimbus bags rights for India tour of Sri Lanka Agence France-Presse Colombo, January 22, 2009 First Published: 11:24 IST(22/1/2009) Last Updated: 11:32 IST(22/1/2009) Sri Lanka Cricket on Thursday awarded Nimbus Sports International the worldwide rights to broadcast India's upcoming tour of the island. The board said Nimbus will produce the television coverage and have commercial rights to market the five match one-day series and a Twenty20 international. "We hope this partnership marks the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship with Sri Lanka Cricket," Nimbus Sport Executive Vice President Yannick Colaco said in a statement. Sri Lanka Cricket did not disclose how much the Singapore based Nimbus network paid for the rights, though Sri Lanka Cricket had fixed a floor price of up to 12 million dollars. However, the Daily Mirror newspaper said the deal was sealed at six million dollars, much lower than what Sri Lanka Cricket had expected. Bids for the series, which runs from January 28 to February 10, attracted interest from Ten Sports, Sony TV and ESPN Star. The tour was finalised to partly fill the gap created by India's cancelled trip to Pakistan in January-February following the Mumbai terror attacks in November. India last toured Sri Lanka in July-August last year, losing the Tests 2-1 before winning the one-day series 3-2.

Lively practice session by Indian team Special Correspondent 2009012650801701.jpgTUNING UP: Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar at the practice session at the MAC Stadium on Sunday. Chennai: The Indian cricket team underwent a lively practice session at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium here on Sunday. Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men will leave for Sri Lanka on Monday for a five-match ODI series and a lone Twenty20 international. The ODI series begins at Dambulla on January 28 and the tour concludes on February 10. The practice session, which began at 4.30 p.m., was held under tight security. The session continued under the lights. Maestro Sachin Tendulkar stroked fluently during nets on the centre wicket. The feature of his batting was the inside-out strokes on the off-side and the manner in which he created room for the same. The off-side was covered by nets and Tendulkar repeatedly sent the ball pounding into the cage. Good nick In-form opener Gautam Gambhir and the strokeful Rohit Sharma appeared in good nick. Dhoni, typically, generated immense power as he struck the ball straight and into the stands. Earlier, the Indian skipper had dived around sharpening his skills with the big gloves. Vice-captain Virender Sehwag was in good spirits sharing a few lighter moments with Tendulkar. The bowlers — Munaf Patel, Irfan Pathan and Pragyan Ojha — who tested their skill against Tendulkar sought to get into a rhythm. Bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad kept a keen eye on the proceedings. Dhoni, Tendulkar, Sehwag, Gambhir, Irfan Pathan, Munaf and Ojha were the first batch of cricketers who practiced. As the evening drew closer, the rest of the 15-member squad joined the proceedings. Fielding session Then, coach Gary Kirsten and fielding coach Robin Singh marshalled an innovative fielding and throwing session. The cricketers enjoyed themselves during the routine. When new boy Ravindra Jadeja hit the stumps with a particularly swift and precise throw, the appreciation of his team-mates was spontaneous.

Sri Lanka unchanged for first three ODIs Sri Lanka's selectors have retained the 15-man squad that beat Pakistan 2-1 for the first three ODIs of the five-match series against India. More... India in Sri Lanka 2008-09 Sri Lanka unchanged for first three ODIs Cricinfo staff January 26, 2009 385247.jpgChaminda Vaas continues to be out of Sri Lanka's ODI team © AFP Sri Lanka's selectors have retained the 15-man squad that beat Pakistan 2-1 for the first three ODIs of the five-match series against India. Sri Lanka, who recovered from losing the first game in Karachi to clinch the recent contest, have now won three ODI series since their 3-2 defeat to India at home in July-August 2008. The decision means Chaminda Vaas continues to be out of the one-day set-up. The selectors have put Malinga Bandara, Chamara Silva, Mahela Udawatte and Chanaka Welegedara on standby. Opener Upul Tharanga has been included despite not playing a game in Pakistan. The team-management instead chose to promote Tillakaratne Dilshan alongside Sanath Jayasuriya at the top of the order. Dilshan succeeded in the role, scoring 255 runs - including an unbeaten 137 in the decider - in a performance that clinched him the Man-of-the-Series award. Dilshan's efforts also helped the team put up big totals in the wins over Pakistan, a boost for a batting line-up that had struggled in recent games against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka's bowling is in sound health. While the focus has been on the spin pair of Ajantha Mendis and Muttiah Muralitharan, their seamers, especially Nuwan Kulasekara and Thilan Thushara, have performed consistently. Kulasekara is currently No. 2 in the ICC ODI rankings. He has taken 40 wickets in 18 ODIs since his return to the team last April. The series begins in Dambulla on January 28. Sri Lanka ODI squad Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Sanath Jayasuriya, Upul Tharanga, Chamara Kapugedera, Jehan Mubarak, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Thilina Kandamby, Muthiah Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis, Farveez Maharoof, Dilhara Fernando, Nuwan Kulasekara, Thilan Thushara, Angelo Mathews.
