cochise Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I'd take Yusuf...he has the potential to be much more devastating in an ODI batting finish. Bowling wise...again, Yusuf with his height can get more bounce on pitches that offer more bounce for the ball.

Well, he looks to be quite calm at the crease, which is no mean feat for a 19 year old. That is a real plus.

Rohit Sharma is a player of the classical mould and is more like a Dravid type. He should be retained for the test side and perhaps not really for the ODI side.
Ram Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I am really impressed. The last time I saw play at the IPL, he was very raw. He was a natural hitter and had a lot of power, but his shot selection lacked discretion. I didnt see him bowl today and only saw him bat for 5-6 overs, but was pleasantly surprised to see him quite organized. He played the spinners with ease, which is something given this is his first match against Murali+Mendis. It remains to be seen who the team management prefers; Yusuf or Jadeja. Yusuf is clearly the more explosive of the two, while Jadeja seems the more reliable bat. But overall, he is a terrific addition to the ODI squad.

Didn't really seem to be able to play the big shots so I'm not sure whether that batting slot is really for him. However it was his first game and he ticked it over nicely. Others who have watched more of him will know whether he is capable of playing matching winning innings' lower down the order.

In ODIs I see Yusuf as a better pick for the slot than Jadeja...he is more explosive and gets more bounce in his bowling. This may change the more I see of Jadeja, but not based on the evidence I saw today alone. Sorry, that's just the way I see it...sad or not.
