Don Sharma Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I am a huge fan of both these great actors with a touch more love for Pacino .Amazing screen presence andhe kind of level of enrgy . He is extremely imposing on the silver screen.I love him even in movies like, And justice for all and crappy ones like Dick tracy .He is a fun to watch in any role. Then all those movies of yore like Godfather, The untouchables,Taxi driver,Serpico,Goodfellas,The raging Bul,Dog day after noon.Then the cult classic Scarface . Watch Carlito's Way if you havent, Pacino was too gud in tht. It is told Sean Penn was not quite interested in doing the movie, later he signed just coz of the experience he wud gain starring alongside Pacino and he wanted some money for his next home production. You know ppl used to mistake Al, de Niro and Hoffman during their early days. All three come from the Actors Studio and Lee Starsberg was the mentor for Al and Hoffman. Starsberg is the one who acted as Al's grandpa in ..And Justice For all. Al is just awesome, if only he had stayed away from drugs and drinks, he wud not have taken a break of 4 years and wud have become even a bigger star. There are many movies that Pacino gave away: Kramer vs. Kramer, Usual Suspects, Pretty Woman among them. If he had acted in all these his career graph wud have looked far better.
riya Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 I was excited when I first saw the thread but by the end it had become more of a joke thread.:(( Anyways IMO Pacino is the best actor ever a close second will be Paul Newman and Robert Redford, loved both of them in Butch Cassidy...also I like de Niro, and personally I feel de Niro out scored Pacino in Heat mainly gotta do with the characters they plyed. Paul newman i would rate above Pacino.That man was way ahead of his times.And Deniro was more subtle and cool in Heat .Thought Pacino gone little OTT, could be because he played a junkie jackass :--D

And, there are a lot many awesome actors nowadays. Just check out Christian Bale in Equilibrium and The Machinist Ryan Gosling in The Believer Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotess Mind and The Truman Show Adam Sandler in Punch-Drunk Love Will Ferrel :omg: in Stranger Than Fiction And, finally for a really versatile actor: Daniel Day-Lewis

It happens everywhere, even down in Tamil Nadu ppl rate Shivaji higher than Kamal, nobody wud dare to say Kamal is a more versatile actor. Anyways it is ur opinion and I respect that.:two_thumbs_up:. I agree with Heat, but if they had to swap their roles, I guess de Niro wud not have done anythin better, again my opinion.

Hey, I like him a lot, I think his performance in One flew over cuckoo's nest is his best till date. Chinatown and The Shining are gud too. Btw I just enjoy wat the actors do and I dont care wat chars they play.

Not to offend anyone but Kamal >> Sivaji. Even in Thillana Mohanambal (one of his greatest works), I felt that he overacted. But Kamal, even in movies such as Virumandi, whether a bit more of overaction wouldn't be criticized, chose to show the subleties of the character and is/was/will be a LOT more natural than Sivaji ever was. Even in Padayappa, which is one of his more calmer performances, the scene where he passes away near the pillar of his house was overdone [and when he's being kicked out of the house, etc]. I have respect for him, but for me, no one can beat Kamal Hassan in acting -not Naseeruddin Shah, not Nana Patekar, not even the Malayalam legends.

Infact I watched "Angels..." last Sunday, I watched until Chapter 3 then I felt a li'l bit bored and stopped. Is it really gud after that, coz barring a few scenes I didnt like it that much. Meryl Streep won an Actors Guild award for that. She is an excellent actress. Do you know John Cazale?, better Fredo in Godfather, Sal in Dog Day... he was the one responsible for wat she is now. Sadly, Cazale died very young, infact Pacino called him his acting partner. Cazale helped set up the careers of Streep and de Niro. He died of cancer and was married to Streep until his death. He was one of the best supporting actors, but has acted only in six films.All his films have won atleast an Oscar and that is a record in itself. I haven watched Looking for Richard, Panic in the Needle park, Glengarry Glen Ross and Frankie & Johnny, any idea, how gud they are?
