By the way it feels awkward to refer to a person by calling him numbers :). It must not go unnoticed that Ponting said Sehwag was similar to Hughes. Not that Hughes was similar to Sehwag.

Ricky Ponting is not new to sounding ridiculous. To even dream of comparing Hughes to Sehwag is to fool oneself. It is definitely good for the game to have many Sehwag's. But hoping is one thing and reality is another.

Maybe some day he will be a similar player to Sehwag, not yet though. And he did say similar.

He has a very quirky technique for an opener and seems to be the sort of bloke who's tough to contain once he gets going. Lets wait till he plays 20-25 tests before pronouncing a judgment.

Even there I disagree. Lets put it this way. Would you say that Gayle is similar to Sehwag in batting. If you say yes to that then I guess it is OK with Hughes as well. A lot of people make the mistake of equating Sehwag's lack of foot movement with poor technique. The fact is he uses balance and head position to his advantage along with backlift and lets momentum and physics do the rest. He also hits balls into the exact same regions as top class and very correct batsmen tend to - without the foot movement and elaborate rituals that they go through. With Gayle and of course with Hughes, that is not true. They are unorthodox players in every sense of the word and dont really stand up to comparison with Sehwag. In fact I would argue that they are not really similar as well. Just a fast scoring rate alone cannot make one batsman similar to another.

North should be replaced by Smith. I don't like the idea of placing Katich (Australia's test player of the year) down the order. Maybe you could do it with Watson, but he's done such a good job opening. Hughes' time will come. I personally believe he should be opening the one dayers with Watson.

I must have meant that if anyone was to be replaced for Hughes to come in it would be North, in which case Smith should be the one to take his spot. Can't drop him after that performance.
