Philip Hughes is the future

I've said this a few times; the kid's a legend in the making. Not the most classical technique, so what? Solid, assured, cool headed and mature beyond his years with a wonderful range of shots, the temperament to make runs against some of the world's best bowlers on all conditions and a fearlessness that will help him become one of the great Australian batsmen. First test century three months after his 20th birthday, in his 2nd test. There are lots more ahead.

legend?? after two games ehh?? he was even out twice in 2nd inning of 1st test.. Also, let him come to India.. and play on dust bowls.. see how he plays against spinners..

he looked good today but legend? no way!he has a funny technique n plays shots only in certain areas.will be found out in time the two young aussies who i do think will be legends are Peter Siddle n Marcus North

Too early to call ... i must say he has an unusual technique, but its proven to be effective so far, he almost jumps into his shots on some occasions, out of the two debutant aussie batsmen this series, i've found Marcus North to be far more technically sound.

Ugly as sin. He will be worked out very soon. And yet, I agree with you. He is definitely the opener for Oz for a while to come.

SHaun Marsh is Like Yuvi....sublime when he hit's his straps. But my friend, this is an openers spot in test cricket, representing Oz. Ugliness is almost a pre-requisite...for if you have made it to this level playing like that....there must be the OTHER element to your game....

i understand what u say.Phil Hughes must have something to be a test cricketer.but that doesnt mean have that ugliness that u talk about.just give him a chance.one thing is pretty clear,Shaun Marsh has a much beter technique than Hughes.technique is very important for an opener.

Not necessarily. Psyche is far more important than technique. Just ask Sehwag and Gambhir eh?

Very promising start. Lets give him 2 full seasons though and see what happens. But for a 20 year old to hit a 100 in his debut test series in South Africa against the attack of Steyn, Morkel and Ntini is very commendable. Just goes on to show how sometimes, it is better to let go off faltering legends, rather than hope against hope that they come good. Had Mathew Hayden not retired, he would have, in all probability, played this test series. And most likely, his run of bad form could have continued, severely hampering Australia’s chances. But, Haydos went away, he was replaced by a young, in-form player and look what happened. Who knows, had Hughes played in the home series against the Saffies, the result could have been very different.

u saying that sehwag n gambhir dont have good enuf techniques? but yes Psyche is also as important.but that doesnt mean shaun marsh doesnt have a weak pshye.hes performed well in watever intl. cricket he has played ,he has done well n u need some psyche to do that.all i am saying just give the boy a chance

Pray tell...what technique has Sehwag got? Hmmmmm? He is basically a prodigy of hand eye coordination...in the old days, he would have been a deadly hunter. He is an instinctual player. That is why he is so destructive. Gambhir is less so...he has some footwork...but he is of the same ilk....he has the nature of fire!

Shaun Marsh is like Yuvi...and Lara....the showboys of cricket. Whether they rise even further above their talent, remains to be seen.

i strongly disagree.Viru has one of the best defensive techniques.his bats come down so straight.its justthat he doesnt use his feet much.u cant survive in test cricket n play those long innings without adequate technique. gambhir also has a good solid technique.he hasnt been tested yet but i'm sure he'll do well.

n how does being like Yuvi n Lara make someone bad for test cricket.u said that it remains to be seen if they rise above their talent.yes.n wats the place to see?international cricket.they r wasting their time in dom. cricket.they deserve to have a crack in intl.cricket
