In the traditional exchange of gifts associated with such a visit Mr. Brown presented our fearless leader with a beautiful ornamental desk pen holder made from the oak timbers of the Victorian anti-slave ship HMS Gannet (once named HMS President), sister ship of the HMS Resolute of presidential desk fame. He also gave Mr. Obama the framed commission for the Resolute, the vessel which came to symbolize good fellowship between our two countries when it was rescued from ice packs by Americans and given to Queen Victoria. Accompanying these treasures was a first edition set of the seven-volume classic biography of Winston Churchill by Sir Martin Gilbert. Mr. Obama gave the prime minister 25 movie DVDs.
