Biggest losers in the ICL debacle

The top international cricketers in ICL won't really be hurt by the ICL debacle this year but the domestic players that were not good enough to play international cricket are going to be hurt the most. They will be snubbed by their respective local cricket boards and that could pretty much mean the end of their cricket career. Spare a thought for those cricketers, unless they have a parallel career they will find it hard playing this sport. It is unfortunate ICL is shutting doors on these cricketers. The likes of Kapil Dev, Tony Grieg and the likes are responsible for pulling up young cricketers from the domestic cricket promising them bright future. Kapil Dev will walk away with a heafty sum all right but what of these cricketers that are left in a lurch? ICL pulled out once they figured they can't make profits out of this venture. When they put together ICL the idea was to encourage up coming players and do the best for them. ICL lacks responsibility in the face of adversity. Never again will any such a venture in future will take off thanks to the debacle by the ICL. Feel sorry for those players that will now have to face the wrath of their local cricket clubs and associations. This will only make ICC and BCCI stronger. They can now dictate to the players and the local associations. This clearly shows the sport survives because they represent a country and not a mix of cricketers from around the world playing for an Indian city. IPL although is a hit is not taken seriously either. Whoever said Twenty20s will displace test cricket need to look at ICL.

in a way, some of these guys who could not get a consistent run with ranji teams because of favouritism, have proved that they r better than what the selectors judged them as.i recall Satish from chennai team was very good even when he faced international bowlers where as he hardly got an opportunity to play ranji trophy for TN. He had to opt for Assam as a professional cricketer. similarly Rayudu was sidelined by the likes of Shivlal Yadav and his son Arjun Yadav where as he proved his potential in ICL. Stuart Binny was sidelined by Karnataka where as Brijesh Patel's son Udit Patel was preferred .Stuart was a success in ICL.there are many such players who have performed well and attracted lot of attention in ICL.Perhaps after ICL packs off, the good performers would get an automatic entry in their domestic teams.this is where Kapil, the self proclaimed Messiah of domestic cricketers can negotiate and get a respectable face saving formula for them. after ICL was formed BCCI increased the match fee for domestic cricketers and also increased the pension benefits.hope the ICL players are considered for these benefits. or ICL guys ensure that the players get a decent golden hand shake at least.

As i hate to say it, Kapil Dev was mainly responsible for it To settle his personal scores, he joined ICL and lured many domestic players getting them to snub their state teams and join ICL The state teams got hit badly all of a sudden (remember:TN/Hyd teams) and they wont be willing to receive these players back with open hands. The players should have thought about this hard..now they are in a soup Now, will Kapil take responsibility, no way

Kapil Dev and Subhash Chandra are absolutely responsible for this. Chandra has a billion $ ego to boot and Kapil wanted to show the world he too can foster and develop a product akin to the BCCI. The way ICL could have worked is massive ground level marketing where kids that play can get their friends and friends of those friends to spread the word around and garner interest. I know that there are tons of inter- league tournaments in Bangalore and Chennai that do this, they even have mini day night events. This would have generated more interest and goodwill. Now God only knows how these players will manage after ICL goes belly up. As far as I can tell the biggest reason why ICL's product didnt sell was that they couldnt tap into the infrastructure the BCCI had, stadia and player pool was a big let down. Who wants to see an old paunchy Inzamam hitting a six and then yawning.
