Puffing away on a cigarette to absorb the tension has put KKR team owner Shahrukh Khan in a spot with the anti-smoking lobby. The National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE), has protested against the filmstar who was shown on TV smoking during an IPL match on April 21 in South Africa. NOTE has asked the South African National Council Against Smoking (NCAS) to consider the issue seriously and ban smoking in the stadium during IPL matches. "I chatted with them and sent details and to Supersport, who are the broadcasters. I am soliciting an agreement that they will not show anyone smoking," Peter Ucko from NCAS has informed NOTE. NOTE General Secretary Shekhar Salkar told PTI that they had contacted NCAS to explore possibilities to prevent such incidents in the future The NCAS in their reply has said that the Act which will ban smoking in sport stadium is not yet in force in South Africa, but smoking was not permitted in certain enclosures. NOTE said that in the absence a law, a request has been made to Khan to quit smoking for his own well being.

its a lame thing to ban smoking in public places .. I remember when I was in my last company I was not allowed to smoke even in the smoking zone of the company .. I had to go outside my office for smoking a ciggy .. very lame law indeed :yawn2:

Stupid really. If they want to ban something they should ban drinking in public places and grounds. Drinking is way more harmful than smoking. These idiots will not stop selling alchohal because it gives them massive returns both to the govt and the seller. If smoking is that bad then why not ban the selling of bloody thing? Just some idiots looking for some cheap publicity.

Who's trying to get cheap publicity? Someone who breaks the rule (assuming there is a rule as someone was saying, didn't check myself) or someone who complains about breaking a rule? Smoking is banned in many public places even in Canada and smokers have to go out even in the winter to smoke. Drinking in moderation is not even half as bad as smoking (didn't really get how drinking is way more harmful than smoking), so there is no comparison really. Never mind about the attention seeking, they haven't yet stopped smoking in stadiums apparently.

the reason they are banned in public places is because of 2nd hand smoke.I dont want children inhaling that vile stuff.

no sane person will smoke near a child or throw th smoke into a non-smokers face .. any usual smoker smokes at least a few feet away from a non-smoker .. regarding women a lot of them smoke themselves .. bhai unless you are throwing the smoke directly near a non-smoker I do not see any problem

You have eternal faith in every smoker's wisdom. I don't. So I support the law against public smoking.

Its not a stupid rule ... smoking is banned in public places in many countries around the world and being a non-smoker myself, I do not appreciate someone blowing smoke into my, currently healthy, lungs. If they choose to smoke, do it in a private place (such as their own home). As for banning drinking in public places, some countries are beginning to adopt that idea as well. At the SCG (and a few other Australian grounds), they split the seating into alcohol (where you are allowed to drink) and non-alcohol (where you are not) zones. I think thats a good idea. But the SCG have gone overboard with other rules, which arent related to this topic.

These NGO's are the biggest frauds really. Most of these ***gots have no lives themselves. Either their family has left them or god knows what. Mentally retarded *******s all of them.
Most NGOs are leechers. They seek donations showing a noble cause and pocket the money.....dont even have to pay taxes. And they are attention seekers. For them any publicity is good publicity.

Haven't you heard of drunken mobsters, gangsters and the anti social elements. Majority of the crime is committed under the influence of alchohal and drugs. Drinking in moderation my foot. You need to look at the number of drunken drivers that kill innocent people on a daily basis. I haven't heard of a driver that has smoked few extra ciggarates and has lost his head while driving. Have you heard about a smoker getting a bit too high and going on a rampage? If it were banned in the stadium and Shah Rukh Khan smoked then freakin inform the law makers. The law makers will engage the authorities and will deal with this as per law. What's there a need to go to the press? In fact from what I know the stadium has not banned smoking so I don't understand what the noise is about. P.S : It's quite stupid of SRK to smoke with young kids around but that's something we can't help can we?
