Pietersen - Probably too early to say Yousuf - No f'ing clue. Flintoff - No Dhoni - No Zaheer - No Steyn - Maybe Agarkar - Undefined. Link to comment

punjabi_khota
Only people about whom I can say something definite are : Ponting: Yes. Chanderpaul: No. Yousuf: Yes. Pakis haven't had too many of his class. Agarkar: :hahaha: Rest are too early to call. Maybe Flintoff is a no because the all rounder position is already taken by Botham Link to comment
Sooda
1 Shivnarine Chanderpaul: would struggle to get in an all time WI 2nd XI despite a great record 2 Graeme Smith: Yep, Kirsten the only real competition to open with Barry Richards 3 Ricky Ponting: Punter wouldnt get in at 3 and IMHO for the other middle order slots S Waugh, Neil Harvey, Greg Chappel and possibly even Border ahead in the queue 4 Kevin Pieterson: tough one... 5 Mohammed Yousuf : Zaheer Abbas and Inzy at 4 and 5 in my all time Pak 11.. Mo Yo at 6 maybe? 6 Andrew Flintoff: a defo no with Botham around 7 M S Dhoni: from what Ive read/heard Kirmani might have been a better keeper and was a handy bat so thats a close call 8 Zaheer Khan (3rd paceman..?) Yep; L Amar Singh instead?? 9 Dale Steyn: Donald, S Pollock, and one of Nitini or P Pollock, would be in the 16 though 10 Ajit Agarkar Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
Can those who think Ponting actually belongs in an all-time Australia XI actually name an AT Aus XI including him, then see how many other far better batsmen they leave out? Link to comment

And Tugga would captain the side. Eng team as chosen by The Independent- Sutcliffe,Hobbs,L Hutton,M Vaughn(?) K P, Knott, Larwood,Tyson,Sydney Barnes, J laker Bearing in mind these are ASHES 11s and not pure all time teams- hence Vaughn.. Trueman would defintely play otherwise, No Willis surprisingly. Mr. Wicket
:hysterical::hysterical: There are 11 including Ponting at #4. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/cricket/ashes-countdown-the-alltime-australia-xi-1688368.html?action=Popup&ino=4 That's a ridiculous article, leaving out Border (whose record in the 80s in a golden era of bowling was head and shoulders above almost EVERYONE else). And Neil Harvey is a far superior pick for #4 than Ponting. Far better batsman to watch, more versatile and outstanding against ALL opposition on all wickets - could handle Fazal Mahmood on matting, spinners in India and South Africa (back when RSA had spinners), and high quality seam, swing and pace. That whole article is full of BS; apparently McGrath isn't good enough to be considered in that XI even though he'd walk into most all-time world XIs. Incredibly badly researched and poorly informed (but then again it IS the Independent, so up to mark with their standards of journalism); ignoring Waugh, Harvey, Border, McGrath and even the fact that O'Reilly was a superior bowler to Grimmett who they pick instead. Crazy. Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
Oh, and what evidence is there to show Ponting would have succeeded at four? Greg Chappel OTOH spent most of his career batting at four, and averaged close to 60 there - with far greater consistency across all opposition and types of bowling than RTP ever did. Would make much more sense for a middle order to be Bradman/Chappell/either Waugh, Harvey or Border/either Border or Miller. Link to comment
