nikred Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Why is homosexuality wrong? Is it to do with moral values? Then again what are moral values? What is moral to one culture is not so to other culture. For example polygamy is a strict no-no in hindu culture but its fine in Islam. The same with incest, some cultures think even cousin marriages is incest too but its totally fine in Islam and also certain sections of Hindu community. Now homosexuality is a total no-no according to Islam but is it really at the same severity level in Hinduism too? Even in Hinduism it has been discouraged but never has it been looked at as a crime. A little googling let me know that a same-sex relation between non-virgins wasn't considered a crime. So basically whose set of religious and moral values is being affected by the decriminalization of that section? This doesn't really hurt a liberal religion like Hinduism but its a big blow to religions like Islam. Look how he is using words like majority of population and minuscule minority, I wonder if the same argument can be used for polygamy.:hmmm:
THX_1138 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 What next? A three way marriage or one between a human and an animal? Have your own freakish sexual orientation/preference in your personal lives, but leave marriage to a man and a woman. well you should be warned, that had an intellectual minimum been a requirement for marriage, you wont have been around.
seedhi Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 900 years of mughal rule has made India conservativeMughal rule started in the year 1526, so yeah that adds up to 900 years of Mughal rule:haha:
THX_1138 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I wonder how Jamaat - e Islami will feel if we criminalize polygamy ? :winky: eat sh*t and die? i dont know, but it wont be pleasant to watch but rather gratifying nonetheless.
seedhi Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I dont understand, if gay sex is allowed then why not decriminalize prostitution, drugs, polygamy, polyandry? All these also involve only consenting adults..
THX_1138 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 900 years of mughal rule has made India conservative i dont think 900 years is correct. babur was around 1550 something, and then assuming the last mughal rule ended in 1857 with the revolt, we are talking 300 years at the very best.
THX_1138 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Are you sure thats okay? Fritzl commited most of his crimes in the privacy of his basement, his daughter having given up fighting ended up being consensual for 20 years or so. Or how about the South Australian man who married his daughter , should we not care? Is there a stake that needs to be set in the ground of societal norms? Zing...! owned with logic and genuine examples! or as is custom: mashallah! you have been pawned!

DomainK Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Lol!! What a freaking joke you are, tex1des! Religious leaders from every religion have opposed moves to legalize homosexuality, but of course you would put in the Muslim opposition. Christian : Hindu : Sikhs : Propaganda machine! Well said. Its not just Ismal......almost every religion is against honosexuality.

Many kings/sages/known personalities in Hindu mythology were married to more than one women simultaneously. Krishna had 100 queens (Rukmini was the main queen though). Ram had promised complete loyality to Sita and hence he never married again, but his father had three queens. In fact Hindu mythology is full of such examples.

nikred Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Guys is there any holy scripture in Hinduism which considers homosexuality a criminal act?
Texy Posted July 2, 2009 Author Posted July 2, 2009 Untrue. Many kings/sages/known personalities in Hindu mythology were married to more than one women simultaneously. Krishna had 100 queens (Rukmini was the main queen though). Ram had promised complete loyality to Sita and hence he never married again' date=' but his father had three queens. In fact Hindu mythology is full of such examples.[/quote'] Polygamy was practiced in ancient India mostly by warrior caste and rich merchants whilst poor would generally be monogamous or celibate. Idea of multiple wives were never really popular in Hindu culture and amongst masses unlike Islam. When Mughals came, they forced many upper class members to convert to Islam due to high taxation and enforced them to maintain the Islamic tradition of multiple wives. Hinduism describes the family as an illusion or maya. Having personal relationships or partners is a great distraction that keeps the soul from liberating itself. What is true and what makes life meaningful is our relationship with God, because in the real sense the hidden self is nothing but God only. Hinduism therefore explains every individual to be wary of the illusory nature of the family and develop a divine oriented attitude while performing their obligatory duties as a sacrifice to God. If family itself is an instrument of maya, polygamy makes it more difficult for an individual to break out of his illusions. Spiritually therefore polygamy is least desirable option for Hindus to pursue and hence it is not practiced amongst Indians and other Hindus around the world.
Texy Posted July 2, 2009 Author Posted July 2, 2009 Guys is there any holy scripture in Hinduism which considers homosexuality a criminal act? I don't think there is any Holy scripture that explicitly prohibits homosexuality. Homosexuality amongst females were encouraged from the point of view of pleasure and sexual freedom Erotic desire is legitimate form of expressing love between two individuals minus pre marital, and extra marital in Hinduism but opponents of homosexuality will argue that love between two men and two women is not the same form of love as a love between a man and a woman...hence only lust is experienced there and lust is a sin.
THX_1138 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I dont understand' date=' if gay sex is allowed then why not decriminalize prostitution, drugs, polygamy, polyandry? All these also involve only consenting adults..[/quote'] because prostitution is often not consensual. there is no open door policy to prostitution: a woman (often sold into prostitution) cannot leave that institution at a time of her choosing. polygamy is the absolute opposite of what this move will promote: commitment to a single individual. besides polygamy is again, rather nonconsensual. same goes for polyandry. and yes we do need more stringent bigotry laws. finally, what drugs have to do with this is beyond me.
Macj Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Guys is there any holy scripture in Hinduism which considers homosexuality a criminal act? The Sanskrit word for homosexuality is Salingakarmi, those who practised it were considered the 3rd sex. It was legal, when sages and rishis are known to have got it on with deer, homosexuality is a walk in the park.
The Outsider Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I dont understand' date=' if gay sex is allowed then why not decriminalize prostitution, drugs, polygamy, polyandry? All these also involve only consenting adults..[/quote'] I don't know what drugs have to do with the topic but as long as consenting adults are involved prostitution, polyandry, incest(as long as the progeny does not suffer), and polygamy should all be legal along with homosexuality of course.

Sexual acts between consenting adults of legal age was what I was talking about. Anyway it's been decriminalised now: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/8129836.stm

It is even against 'kinky' sex between heterosexual partners. Fellatio and anal sex is/was also a crime according to this section. So surprise buttsecks was a crime.:P Good that they got rid of it.
