P.S; I am still seething at the way he rubbished Suresh Raina when he said ‘I’ve heard a lot of things about this boy, did they not bowl the shot ball to him at the IPL?’

He is so blatantly and clearly anti Indian. Ironic as his dad is Indian. Clearly suffering from some complex about proving he is english and has swung to far the other way. Malcolm Merlyn Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 all the english bowlers are bowling quick.............broad was hitting 90mph continously.....even hit 150ks.............flintoff was super quick......fastest at almost 152 ks.............this proves one thing.......quick deliveries on the body,throat,head,chest and no one is comfortable.......indian australian south africans any one....no one likes bowls at 90mph buzzing around ears or nose or eyes........so this is why we need quick bowlers for india

All five miscued it. I'd say the theory has legs. As usual, the English commentators are quick to stereotype when it happens to Indians in a silly 20-20 fixture, but will do anything but when the Aussies have been found out in a Test match.

If we indulge in lazy sterotyping like others do for India then they also cant play the short ball. Like i posted in previous thread about indian team -------------------------------------- Its a Rubbish sterotpye. Yes we can play the short ball Won our last test series in England. Enough said. Brilliant in oz tours. Won last 20/20 World Cup in SA on bouncy tracks. Its all bull. One player Raina gets out to pull and we cant play short ball. All form and stats over last few years goes against this pants sterotype. If sehwag had been there he would have uppercutted them for 6 and Sachin would have ramped them and uppercutted them for 6 as well. Most of the posters on this forum sound like mini versions of Nasser Hussain, who never won a test series against India despite his so called bull theories

umpire Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 yes rainy day, no modern batsman can be comfortable against Short stuff if its directed correctly. Its due to the fact that they have protective gears and they tend to keep their off the ball. Old greats I am sure had to watch the ball and make sure they play it well, else they would have been injured.

yoshi Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 watching all the short balls today raises an interesting point- what can a batsmen do when bowlers keep bowling short whilst there is a fielder out on the hook. If he attempts the shot and gets caught by the man out on the boundary he has fallen into the bowlers trap. But can he keep just letting the balls go- how would he stamp any authority on the bowler and especially if there is a strong pace bowling line up in the team- even if one bowler get tired after putting in all the energy bouncer balls then another will just take his place and for the batsman the short pitch deliverys continue. What do you guys think a batsman should do to try and discourage or counter this type of strategy?
umpire Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 rewind couple of years, what did tendulkar do against Anderson and Company on similar pitch. He refused to fall in trap, took some knocks, looked ugly, but he did the job. Thats what one should do, if bowlers is trying to bowl short, he won't last long as bowling short means that much more energy out of you. So best approach will be waiting game and waiting for real long hope and smash it over mid wicket or upper cut.

That is what Dravid does. Back in 1983 when there were no over restrictions Marshall kept on bowling bouncers to Kirmani. He kept on ducking until he got tired. It is a test for your ability, temperament and guts. It is difficult to control the pull or hook all the time regardless of the pace.
