Mr. Wicket
Two epic innings from Tendulkar v. Australia in the 1998 Coca Cola Cup in Sharjah. http://www.cricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/410450.html Boria Majumdar's tribute on cricinfo. Jesus Christ what a mediocre piece. For those interested in reading more about this great match, graphic23 has an excellent piece here about the same game. No comparison. http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=162296 One reads like it was written by an intelligent, passionate fan, the other reads like a piece written by a HT Tabloid writer who saw a one minute youtube clip to summarize the game. Dhondy
You are comparing a guy who grapples with the intricacies of QM every day with somebody who probably has a 2nd class degree in political science? As I never tire of saying Thal, look at the source. I'd rather invest a few minutes reading an article by one of the guys here who do something else for a living than listen to one of these pseudo pundits swarming all over us like a plague. Tapioca
Majumdar has attributed it to the wrong match too. The six was in the final on April 24 (as also mentioned in the ICF article), not in the league match on April 22 as said in CI. Link to comment
EnterTheVoid
Boria is a Rhodes scholar and is currently a senior researcher at Melbourne's LaTrobe University. Academically, he is very well versed; add to that, he was written many cricket books and many articles for newspapers and cricketing journals. That aside, good god, he is a terrible reporter. He does the sports section for "Times Now", or "Times or India" or whatever, ..... , his interviewing style is unbearable. Maybe thats just his interview style but he screams a lot. Link to comment
DomainK
I find Boria arrogant and irritating. This particular piece is so bad that it almost looks like he is attempting to rob Tendulkar of his deserved credit. Link to comment

Yes, I know many "researchers" like that. It just shows how much paper pushing is being done in the name of research if you can't knock a few decent sentences together to save your life. Lurker
Going on my usual rant I shall blame the plethora of Indian "journalists" who basically have taken the art of cricket literature down the toilet. The topic - 50 magic moments - was actually a fantastic idea that could have been worth its weight in gold. And in many cases it was - Roebuck mentioning Worrell's team down under, Coward talking about last ball in Tied Test, Abbasi talking abt Kapil Dev taking the most momentous catch in Indian cricket history etc etc. What do most of (young) Indian journalists do? Start singing hosanas about Sachin tendulkar. Even that would have been okay but look at the pick - hits against Qadir, against Warne, last over against South Africa. Hey weirdos whatever happened to Chennai Tied Test?? Or India-Pakistan at Wanderers? VVS's milestone innings? Sehwag, well too many of them really. This had all the potential of being a classic alas wasnt supposed to be so. Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
Lurks, Re. that 50 magic moments thing... it's still one heck of an idea. Any interest in collaborating (and seeing if we can rope in some other folks like Dhondy and shwetabh, given their depth of perspectives and writing skills) and doing a series of pieces like that for this site? I'd started writing a bunch of old 'Down Memory Lane' articles on the old ICF - would be cool to pick up where I left off on that and do maybe a series of pieces on 50 magic moments (Indian cricket and others - have plenty of GREAT memories from old Aus and WI games) for here. A few of the ones I wrote: http://www.cricketnetwork.co.uk/main/s119/st61448.htm http://www.cricketnetwork.co.uk/main/s119/st61562.htm http://www.sportnetwork.net/main/s119/st61905.htm http://www.sportnetwork.net/main/s119/st62164.htm Link to comment

Mr. Wicket
Oi, was planning on shooting you an email about chipping in on a few of those pieces. If we can get a few interested members here who're able to write some great stuff for the site - could be an AMAZING feature. (Would certainly make CI's '50 magic moments' feature look like even more of a pile of half-assed **** that any undergrad communications major could produce.) Link to comment
DomainK
I would wait anxiously to read those pieces guys. Please do work on the 50 amazing moments concept and do some justice to it. We have some excellent writers here in ICF and we can have some of the best articles on the net. Link to comment
rahuliverpool
yup, brilliant idea. I personally would love to read the articles!:two_thumbs_up: Link to comment

Wouldnt mind that at all Salil. Matter of fact before I logged in today I was a tad dismayed to see the lead article (on homepage) regarding an unknown Lankan player. Nothing against him, or Lanka, but surely we can churn out better stuff for homepage? no? Link to comment
Dhondy
What are we waiting for? The punters are thirsting for it, the opportunity is there- get started and get the first one up and running, Thal & Graphic. Lurker, Shwetabh, Gambo, Ravi, Sriram, Tapioca and I next. Anybody else wats to dazzle us, be our guest. Get started. Not too long a piece- remember, we are talking about a moment or a passage of play, not an entire match. That itself will be a challenge- how much wonder you can condense into a reasonably short piece. Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
Alright then. First one's going up in a minute. Edit: It's up. http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=168927 Link to comment

Tapioca
does anyone remember sachins innings against zimbabwe when he straight drove eddo brandes into the stands? Funnily, I was thinking about it last night after reading this thread as one of the most memorable Tendulkar moments. From what I remember, he stepped out intending to pull over midwicket, but Brandes fired the ball out towards his pads. Halfway through the shot Tendulkar adjusted it, and the ball went over the sight screen, or just to the left of it. This was his 104 in the last league match in Benoni 1996/7 where India needed to win in 40 overs to qualify for the final and did it with two or three balls to spare. Link to comment
