Australia names Trophy squad 22/08/2009 1:45 PM Australian selectors on Saturday named a predictable 15-man squad for next month's ICC Champions Trophy, keeping faith with the personnel who will take on England in the post-Ashes one-day series. The team will largely resemble the one that will take to the field for seven one-day internationals against the English in the lead-up to the 50-over tournament, which will be held from September 22 to October 5 in South Africa. Ricky Ponting, who is taking a rest during the forthcoming Twenty20 matches against England, leads the squad to South Africa, backed by deputy Michael Clarke. The likes of Ben Hilfenhaus, Peter Siddle and Nathan Hauritz - who all enhanced their international reputations during the Ashes - remain in the limited-overs set-up while one-day specialists including James Hopes, Nathan Bracken and Cameron White are all present. There is also a place for the out-of-form Michael Hussey. National Selection Panel chairman Andrew Hilditch said "The NSP has selected a squad for the Champions Trophy which is similar to the squad assembling in the UK to play against England." "The Champions Trophy is a key event on ICC's cricket calendar and is a good opportunity for us to see how this new-look Australian one-day squad goes in its bid to retain the Trophy." "The one-day team hasn't played in a major tournament since the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup and this will be a good chance to see where we are at." "The team is in a rebuilding phase and we look forward to seeing how this squad goes in England and South Africa as we prepare for the 2011 ICC World Cup in the subcontinent." Among those to miss out on selection were Phillip Hughes, Andrew McDonald, Marcus North and Tim Paine. Australia has been drawn in the same group as the West Indies, India and Pakistan. Australia squad for the ICC Champions Trophy is: Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, Nathan Bracken, Callum Ferguson, Brad Haddin, Nathan Hauritz, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, Michael Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Peter Siddle, Adam Voges, Shane Watson, Cameron White

Lets see how Hussey goes in the one dayers. He should already be a certainty to be dropped in tests in my eyes, but he can have this series to prove he's still got it in him for one dayers. If he doesn't deliver then I'm quite happy to say bye bye to Hussey for Australia in all forms of the game. As for the squad it has a good mix of young and experienced players, but I'm a bit surprised that Hughes and North missed out.

wats the news on Warner' date='mate,is he injured or something?also Shaun Marsh ?whos goona open with Watson[/quote'] I don't think Warner is quite ready for 50 over matches yet, give him another year in state and if he does well then he can come back into the side. He is a must for 20/20s though.. Marsh I'm not sure, he might be injured. But it looks like Watson will be opening with either of Clarke or Haddin who bothe do a fine job.

David Hussey is crap as well. It's funny actually, Mike's demise came ever since his brother came into the side lol. Now that I see it is a 20/20 tournament, Warner should of been included for me.
it is 50-50 tourney, dude, dont u know champion trophy, the aussies won it last time in India, remember? David Hussey looks a good player, certainly can accelerate the scoring.this is Aus' batting line-up Haddin Watson Ponting Hussey Clarke Ferguson Haddin i would prefer David Hussey instead of Ferguson coz he can get going at the death

Lol I get mixed up with all the 20/20 tournaments going round these days. My team: 1.Haddin 2.Watson 3.Ponting 4.M.Hussey (last chance) 5.Clarke 6.Ferguson 7.Haddin 8.Hopes 9. Johnson 10. Lee/Bracken 11. Siddle/Bracken Sorry, but I really don't rate Dave Hussey all that much.

No Indian player featured in that promo. ICC is certainly trying to isolate Indian players (due to their stance on WADA clause). :omg:
or maybe Indian players asked for crores of money to come up on the screen for a second.....all the smiley advertisements and ipl money is to blame :winky:
