During that period when he was kind of in charge we won test series in England and 20/20 world cup. He actually made a case for the top job after that. No doubt the way Ishant and some of other pacers have been bowling cost him in the end

Sachinism Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Venkatesh Prasad and Robin Singh have been sacked from their respective positions of bowling and fielding coaches with immediate effect. Prasad, the former India new-ball specialist, told Cricinfo he had not been notified by the BCCI about his axing. "I have been not been informed about this but if this is true, I am deeply disappointed and hurt," he said. "I have no doubt that I have done my job for the Indian team to the best of my abilities. I will try to contact the BCCI and find out what I did wrong that has led them to take this decision." Prasad and Robin, it is understood, were working without a formal contract and on a retainer payment basis. In March, the pair were retained in March among India's seven-member support staff. Prasad, who played in 33 Tests and claimed 96 wickets besides 196 scalps in 161 one-day internationals, had been in charge of India's bowling since the tour to Bangladesh just after the disastrous World Cup campaign in 2007. He had been a vocal advocate of specialised coaches, which have become a basic requirement in modern cricket. Robin, who handled the team's fielding since that same tour, was recently appointed coach of Mumbai Indians for the third season of the IPL. He represented India in 136 ODIs, scoring 2336 runs at 25.75 and picking up 69 wickets at 43.26.

Maybe we could have a few more people who are doing something positive for the team. Whats Johnty doing these days :woot: Its always entertaining when India are about to sign a new coach. So much speculation about.

Don't you think our overall fielding hasn't improved a lot under Robin? If anything we are worse than the WC'03 team (which I think was the best fielding unit for a long time now).

Look at the rankings if you want evidence. Semms to me as if one loss in cham trophy and not doing that well in 20/20 lottery world cup and the knives are out. Shame the BBCI could not look at bigger picture and how well we have done, instead of pandering to the media in trying to look tough and looking for scapegoats. Yeah Prasad needs to be looked at. but it seems Ishant is the reason for his axing and that could be cos of Ishant and not the coach!

And some of the people they are given are just not good enough I've said earlier it was a bit harsh, as I do agree, a coach can only do so much, out in the field its upto the player to do his job. But I guess the Indian fans would probably start burning effigies it some action was not taken for these poor performances of late. I don't think they deserved it, but they're gone so I guess its time to start looking at who are the options to fill the spots
