Butt to discuss Indo-Pak ODI at neutral venue

KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ejaz Butt is visiting India next week reportedly to hold talks with Indian cricket officials for a bilateral One-day series at a neutral venue next year. Butt confirmed today he would hold meetings with the Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi and meet Indian board and government officials there, but refused to divulge the details. "I don't want to go into the details of this visit and I will give details when I return home," Butt said. Sources close to Butt indicated that the visit was linked to attempts by Pakistan to convince the Indian board and International Cricket Council to arrange a bilateral one-day series at a neutral venue next year. He is also expected to discuss with the Indian Cricket Board officials the Future Tours Programme and Pakistani players' participation in the Indian Premier League. "It is no secret that the PCB is keen to play a short bilateral series with India even at a neutral venue and has also sought the cooperation of the ICC in this regard," a source said. He said Butt's meeting with Pakistan High Commissioner and Indian board officials could also be linked to paving the way for Pakistani players to eventually take part in the third Indian Premier League season next year. "Pakistani players are keen to take part in the lucrative IPL next year after having missed out on the opportunity this year. The Indian board will have to seek clearance from its government to play Pakistan in a bilateral series at a neutral venue or allow Pakistani players to take part in the IPL," the source added. Butt also confirmed that China had offered to host the next Asia Cup and for this purpose was preparing an international standard ground. "China is keen to play host and it is an exciting prospect for Asian cricket," he said. Malaysia was initially picked as the venue for the next Asia Cup at the last Asian Cricket Council meeting. Sources said Butt could also utilise his visit to hold talks with the Indian officials about the possibility of having the tournament in China.
Next what ? Have the tournament on Moon. Anyways when will these Pakis realize that it is the Indian Govt that is the problem and not BCCI? Infact if Modi had his way -- he would have be standing at the Wagah Border panting like a dog waiting to send him team over to Paki Land -- to make a buck or two.

Stupid Butt at it again and China! We don't want to play with minnows!!! :--D Putting politics crap aside cricket should carry on b/w two countries not as much as we played in 04-06. Neutral venues like Dubai and Abu Dhabi are ideal locations. Though I would rather prefer seeing my team play against Australia/ SA more often than India. That too not as often as India plays against Australia b/c then it will obviously get boring.

PCB chief to discuss bilateral ties PCB chairman Ejaz Butt is in India apparently to discuss the possibility of bilateral series at neutral venues. Butt, who has been invited to witness the one-day international between India and Australia at Mohali on Monday, has kept mum on the schedule of his visit. Sources within the PCB told PTI that he would also discuss arrangements for the Pakistan team if they have to play their World Cup matches in India, including the visa and security issues. "International Cricket Council is expected to announce the final schedule of matches and venues on November 9 and Butt will discuss arrangements for Pakistan team if they have to play their World Cup matches in India," one source said. ICC has already announced groupings for the World Cup after 14 matches were shifted from Pakistan due to security concerns. The lion's share of 14 matches would now be played in India with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh hosting some games. "There is every likelihood that Pakistan would qualify for the quarterfinals and might end up needing to play matches in India. Butt will also meet Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi to discuss the security and other arrangements for Pakistan team if it has to play some World Cup matches in India," the source said. Butt will be keen to sort out some issues with the Indian board officials regarding issuance of visa and other facilities to Pakistani visitors if they want to travel to India for the World Cup matches. "Butt will also follow up on the issue of the ancillary revenues the PCB will get over and above the USD 10.5 million it is guaranteed as hosting fees from the ICC after the shifting of its share of World Cup matches to the other host countries," he said. "According to the arrangement with the ICC, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have to pay Pakistan for the estimated net revenues Pakistan could have earned from ticketing, gate, hospitality, car parking had the 14 matches been held in Pakistan," the source added.
