This have been really hard done by this New Delhi, Nov 3 (IANS) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Wednesday disqualified Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) from this year’s Ranji Trophy tournament after the team’s refusal to travel to Srinagar for their match against Jammu and Kashmir. SSCB was scheduled to play Jammu and Kashmir at Srinagar Nov 3-6 in the Plate Division of the Ranji Trophy season-opener Wednesday. ‘The SSCB has forfeited the match expressing their inability to send the team to Srinagar,’ BCCI secretary N. Srinivisan said in a statement. ‘The SSCB has therefore been disqualified from participating in the 2009-10 edition of the Ranji Trophy, in accordance with the rules of the BCCI pertaining to domestic tournaments,’ he said. ‘A decision on any further action against the SSCB will be taken by the working committee of BCCI.’ The match was supposed to herald the return of first-class cricket to the valley after five years. http://trak.in/news/services-thrown-out-of-ranji-trophy-for-not-playing-in-srinagar/19730/\ p.s - not making it part of the ranji thread as this is something very important. Why did they not raise this issue months back when BCCI issued the Ranji itinerary? Secondly, if there are any security concerns, how can BCCI ask a team to go to J & K? Isn't the Services team controlled by the defence department of India? If they think that there is a security concern then that is legitimate. BCCI should pay attention to that instead.

But i am not sure if all the players didn't want to go. Reports might say it was Unanimous decision, but it will always remain a mystery.
They were advised by their board to not go there.

See, thats where I feel sad for their players now. What have players done in that. They won't get to feature for one whole year and won't be able to showcase anything to selectors. Plus I heard that this was first ever game in 2 decades to be played in this stadium. No wonder there would be some security concern

Is it not sad that the defense department of India is not ready to send it's team to certain parts of India for security concerns?

Services apologises to BCCI for skipping Ranji match

NEW DELHI: Slapped with the ban for this year's Ranji Trophy after forfeiting the match against Jammu and Kashmir in Srinagar, Services on Tuesday apologised to the BCCI and offered to play the game if fresh dates were allocated. After their forfeiture led to angry reactions from the J&K Cricket Association, Services went into damage control mode and offered to play the game. "Services cricket is ready to play in Srinagar. Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) has apologised to the BCCI for the administrative slip-up in dispatch of its team and requested them for fresh dates," a top SSCB official said. The BCCI banned Services from this year's Ranji Trophy cricket season for skipping a match against Jammu and Kashmir in Srinagar citing security reasons. The BCCI, however, said that a decision on whether to lift the ban or not would be taken by the president after receiving and studying the apology. "We had decided to disqualify the Services for skipping the match in Srinagar and it was for the Working Committee to decide on further action. If the Services have apologised it is for the president to take a decision," BCCI spokesman Rajiv Shukla said. Services forfeited the Plate Division match at the Sher-E-Kashmir stadium, hosting a Ranji game after a gap of five years, leaving the J&K Cricket Association chief Farooq Abdullah livid. Abdullah threatened to take up the matter with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, saying Services had negated the government of India's positive assessment of the state's security situation. Aware of the sensitivity of the matter, the BCCI promptly disqualified Services from this year's Ranji Trophy and said further action would be decided at its next working committee meeting. Jammu and Kashmir earned four points from this forfeited match and will now take on Haryana from November 10-13.
LINK Hope BCCI lifts the ban on Services team at least keeping in mind the sake of the players concerned.

Hope the ban is removed after the apology. Although there is some security concern but not playing in any part of India due to security reasons would give wrong impression to other countries which are traveling to India. If one of our domestic teams is not confident of playing in every part of the country then a foreign team would find it even harder. But hope that BCCI takes extra measures to ensure that the match goes on without any security problems.

BCCI dismisses Services’ apology for forfeiting tie Age Correspondent With Agency Inputs New Delhi Nov. 3: Services’ apology for skipping their Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir fell on deaf ears at the Board of Control for Cricket in India, which said it would not relent in its decision to ban the institutional team from the current season of the national cricket championship in the wake of the formers’ last-minute pull-out from their scheduled Plate fixture at Srinagar. Following their disqualification by the BCCI, a repentant Services Sports Control Board offered to play their forfeited match against J&K on fresh dates, but the Board remained unmoved. "We have taken the decision to disqualify the Services team from playing in this year’s Ranji Trophy. Since the decision has already been taken we will not change it," BCCI spokesman Rajiv Shukla was quoted as saying. Services had pulled out of the Plate Division match at the Sher-E-Kashmir stadium, hosting a Ranji game after a gap of five years at the very last minute , and the move drew an immediate reaction from the BCCI, which banned Services from playing in this year’s Ranji Trophy. The move came in the wake of the angry backlash from state cricket board president Farooq Abdullah, with the SSCB saying in a statement, "Services cricket is ready to play in Srinagar. Services Sports Control Board has apologised to the BCCI for the administrative slip-up in despatch of its team and requested them for fresh dates." Services had pulled out from the match at the last moment citing security as a reason even as Abdullah threatened to take up the matter with the Prime Minister. "The SSCB cricket team was scheduled to play a Ranji Trophy game against Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association at Srinagar from November 3 to 6. However, the SSCB forfeited the match, having expressed their inability to send the team to Srinagar. "The SSCB has, therefore, been disqualified from participating in the 2009-10 edition of the Ranji Trophy, in accordance with the rules of the BCCI pertaining to domestic tournaments," BCCI secretary N. Srinivasan said in a statement. "A decision on any further action against the SSCB will be taken by the BCCI’s Working Committee," the statement added. Cricket was all set to return to the Kashmir valley after a five-year hiatus. Orissa were the last team to play a Ranji Trophy match in J&K back in 2004. The SSCB was not forthcoming about the reasons behind the pull-out. "At this moment we have no comments to make on the issue. The defence ministry will be issuing a statement in this regard soon," a ministry official told this newspaper. Services’ assistant coach J.P. Pandey expressed helplessness at the situation. "We were instructed not to travel to J&K for the match and asked to prepare for the next match. Why the decision was taken only the SSCB officials can explain," Pandey said. JKCA president Farooq Abdullah was furious at the Services decision. "Services have negated what the Prime Minister, the defence minister and the home minister have said, that Kashmir is normal. We had ambassadors coming here. This shows that some vested interests that don’t want Kashmir to normalise," Abdullah said. "I will take this up with the government of India. We were all waiting for the Services. We were here to welcome them. It looks very bad that of all teams, Services decided not to come," he added. * More...
