Why is everyone bagging Harbhajan? He bowled very very well in New Zealand in the last test series, where he was the leading wicket taker in the series, taking 16 wickets in 3 matches @ 21.37. Even in this current ODI series against Australia, he is India's leading wicket taker with 8 wickets from 6 games @ 33.87 and the best economy rate of any of India's main bowlers. I don't always like his antics on the field, but the guy always gives 100% for the team whether it be with ball or bat.

Injury scare, wet start fail to dampen focussed Lankans Cyclone Phyan may have given Mumbai a miss but overnight showers ensured the Sri Lankans stayed indoors on Wednesday, the opening day of their warm up game against the Board President's XI, reports Abhijeet Kulkarni. More... Injury scare, wet start fail to dampen focussed Lankans Abhijeet Kulkarni, Hindustan Times Mumbai, November 11, 2009 First Published: 23:23 IST(11/11/2009) Last Updated: 23:25 IST(11/11/2009) Cyclone Phyan may have given Mumbai a miss but overnight showers ensured the Sri Lankans stayed indoors on Wednesday, the opening day of their warm up game against the Board President's XI. Unlike their counterparts, who preferred to take the day off after the umpires announced that no play was possible, the visitors spent over three hours training at the indoor facility of the MCA. The Lankans faced an injury scare in the morning when the in-form Tillakaratne Dilshan twisted his ankle during pre-nets training and had to be taken for precautionary scans. “The doctors have advised a few days of rest,” said Dilshan after returning from hospital. There was no word from the team management over the exact nature of injury but it is unlikely that he will take part in the warm-up game. In his absence, the other top order batsmen spent time working on their defence, while Muttiah Muralitharan, Rangana Herath and Ajantha Mendis were the bowlers in action. The spin trio showcased the abundance of riches Kumar Sangakkara has in the department and it will be interesting how the 32-year-old captain tackles the selection dilemma. Sangakkara has already made it clear that he would watch his bowlers' performance at the nets and in warm-up game before finalizing the line-up. With the first day getting washed out and play uncertain over the next two days, the net session was all the more intense. Former captain Mahela Jayawardene spent considerable time talking to Mendis in between deliveries. The chief tormentor during India's tour of Sri Lanka last year has been in indifferent form, but with the psychological edge he has over the Indian batsmen, he could be back to his best by the time the first Test starts in Ahmedabad on November 16.

BCCI not keen on review system More... More... No ‘referrals’ for Sri Lanka Tests HT Correspondent, Hindustan Times New Delhi, November 11, 2009 First Published: 23:28 IST(11/11/2009) Last Updated: 23:30 IST(11/11/2009) The Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) will not be used during the forthcoming India-Sri Lanka series despite the ICC hoping that the system would become a permanent fixture from October this year. UDRS, which is also alternatively called the referral system, was put in place to help eliminate blatant errors that on-field umpires might make by giving players an opportunity to challenge decisions in real time. The Chief Executives' Committee and the ICC Board had decided on June 24 to accept the recommendations of the ICC Cricket Committee, which had on May 12 suggested a phased roll-out of the UDRS from October 2009. The meetings in London went one step further with the ICC stating that: “UDRS should be rolled out in Test cricket from October 2009.” This meant that it was virtually compulsory for all series to have the necessary infrastructure in place to use the UDRS. The UDRS was first trialled during India's Test tour of Sri Lanka last year, and since then the number of challenges per team has been reduced from three to two to cut down on frivolous challenges and prevent unnecessary delays.

India gear for Sri Lanka Test challenge India will make a quick switch to Test cricket to defend their unbeaten home record against Sri Lanka in a three-match series starting in Ahmedabad on Monday. More... India gear for Sri Lanka Test challenge Agence France-Presse Ahmedabad, November 14, 2009 First Published: 07:37 IST(14/11/2009) Last Updated: 07:41 IST(14/11/2009) India will make a quick switch to Test cricket to defend their unbeaten home record against Sri Lanka in a three-match series starting in Ahmedabad on Monday. Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men have endured a gruelling six-month schedule of limited-overs cricket which ended this week with a one-day series loss against world champions Australia. The Indians have played just three Tests this year -- in New Zealand in March-April -- and Dhoni agreed the sudden adjustment to the traditional five-day format will not be easy. "This is the way modern cricket is played," said Dhoni. "We have to be mentally prepared to make the change and I am confident we will be up for the challenge." Sri Lanka are brimming with confidence after two back-to-back series wins at home against Pakistan and New Zealand which lifted Kumar Sangakkara's men to the number two spot in the Test rankings behind South Africa. India, however, remains the final frontier for the Sri Lankans, who have never won a Test on Indian soil in six previous series, losing eight matches while the remaining six were drawn. "Winning Tests in India is a goal, but we are not putting ourselves under any pressure," said Sangakkara. "We want to enjoy the tour and if we play as well as we are capable of, there is no reason why we can't win." Sri Lanka suffered heavy defeats in their last series in India in 2005, losing the second Test by 188 runs and the third by 259 runs after the first match was rained off. Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Thilan Samaraweera and star spinner Muttiah Muralitharan are the only survivors from that tour, but the skipper said his young side was capable of delivering. "Inexperience is sometimes a good thing as the Indian batsmen have not played our fast bowlers regularly in the longer form of the game which can work to our advantage," said Sangakkara. "Sometimes a fresh perspective, attitude and enthusiasm could be an added bonus". Muralitharan, Test cricket's leading bowler with 783 wickets, also has a score to settle after claiming just 31 scalps in eight matches on Indian soil at an expensive average of 39.58. The off-spinner, 37, will once again lead the attack with help from fellow spinners Rangana Herath and Ajantha Mendis on wickets that traditionally help slow bowlers. India, riding on their formidable batting led by world record holder Sachin Tendulkar, have won three of their last four home series against Pakistan, Australia and England, while the fourth against South Africa ended 1-1. The Ahmedabad Test will mark the start of a third decade in international cricket for Tendulkar, the world's leading Test and one-day batsman, who made his debut aged 16 against Pakistan on November 15, 1989. Test regulars Rahul Dravid and Venkatsai Laxman are back to join Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh in the middle-order, with twice triple-centurion Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir opening the batting. India's bowling will be bolstered by the return of pace spearhead Zaheer Khan, who was sidelined for five months with a shoulder injury. The 31-year-old left-arm seamer has 210 wickets from 65 Tests. Khan and young paceman Ishant Sharma are expected to share the new ball, with seasoned off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and leg-break bowler Amit Sharma providing the spin options. The remaining two Tests will be played in Kanpur (November 24-28) and Mumbai (December 2-6).
