I don't quite get this argument that we are going to fall behind because we won't be playing much test cricket... That requires the assumption that the other teams are going to keep accumulating points while we remain stagnated..it doesn't quite work like that does it? Looking at the table there are SA, AUS and SL within touching distance of India. The rest are way behind. So if these top 4 teams were to compete against each other then obvious they are going to be closely fought series. So one can expect their ranking points to fluctuate or worst case scenario result in a marginal increase..so shouldn't this benefit the team whose points remains stagnant? As an example for about a year Pakistan hardly played any high level ODI cricket(remember the time Mlaik bragged about 13 consecutive wins under his reign against Blangladesh and Zim)..well when they again started competing against high quality teams they were again back to 4th position in no time..there was also the case of Moyo when he turned rebel by joining ICL(he was #1 batsman at the time), his ratng points got stagnated and meanwhile all the other top batsmen experienced form dips and peaks..as a result when he returned recently in Pak's tour of Lanka when he scored the century in the 1st test he was #1 again right afetr the 1st match!!
