If IPL shows a profit on its balance sheet how does it benefit Modi? The guy is a multi millionaire even without the IPL.

Do you really think a business man out of nowhere generates a sudden interest of helping cricket "grow" if there is no moolah in the offering for himself ? There is always a loophole in the system and ars3holes like Modi know how to find one. If anything he can suck the money out of IPL bank under the tag of "bonus/profit".

Modi, who has successfully conducted two editions of the Indian Premier League and filled the BCCI coffers with his marketing acumen, has been having problems with some of the key BCCI functionaries for some time now. According to sources in the know of the development, the move to remove Modi as the IPL Commissioner and Chairman has been gaining momentum within the board. "There is a move within the BCCI to remove Modi as IPL chairman and commissioner. The argument is that the IPL is a BCCI event and logically the BCCI president should head it as an ex officio member. "It does not mean that Modi will have no role at all in the running of the IPL but it is only that he should not be heading the show," the source disclosed. Although no BCCI official was willing to go on record on this development, it is learnt that BCCI secretary N Srinivasan, known to be at loggerheads with Modi, is in the forefront of this campaign. The move has not yet come up for formal discussion in working committee meetings but is being pursued privately to garner support. "These things are not discussed in working committee meetings where only items listed in the agenda are taken up for deliberation. But yes, behind the scene, it is discussed," the source said. Modi, who was given virtually a free hand to run IPL, his brainchild event, during Sharad Pawar's tenure as the BCCI president, has not enjoyed the same status after Shashank Manohar took over. Attempts to clip Modi's wings started from the second edition of the IPL, which was staged in South Africa because of the general elections in India. The first such attempt was made when the BCCI decided to terminate the contract of IMG as the event manager for IPL. Modi, however, got seven of the eight franchises to rally behind him and wrote letters to the BCCI questioning the merit of the decision. The only franchise which did not send such a letter was Chennai Super Kings, co-owned by Srinivasan. Pawar himself was critical of the decision and it was a letter from him that tilted the scale in Modi's favour and BCCI subsequently renegotiated the deal with IMG in which the event management company's fee was reduced from Rs 33 crore to Rs 27 crore. Meanwhile Modi, aware of the changing equation within the BCCI top brass, is learnt to have extended the olive branch to his one time nemesis Jagmohan Dalmiya. Modi had recently been to Kolkata, ostensibly to oversee the renovation work at the Eden Gardens, and had a one-to-one chat with Dalmiya for close to one hour and Cricket Association of Bengal sources gave enough indications that a rapprochement between the two was a possibility. The third edition of IPL will be held in March-April next year and the auctioning process has already started. Modi has grand plans for future editions of the IPL and has also announced that the number of teams would be increased to 10 from 2011.

But he has to be given credit for his great marketing skills and for making IPL such a success. Modi should not be removed but some of his powers can be limited so that he is not the all-in-all of IPL and BCCI also has a say in it. But I am overall perfectly satisfied with Modi's tenure as head of the IPL. L Modi rocks :adore::adore::adore:

It took the T20 concept from county cricket and private domestic league concept from MLB, NBA etc and combined them. This was something i(and many more i am sure) suggested long before ICL. You think Sci fi did not exist before Star wars Or wizards before harry potter or vampires before Twilight? They are all mash ups of previously created ideas but are responsible for taking it to a wider audience. Modi, did the same.He has to be given his due for making it so popular and for taking BCCI from the biggest cricket board to one of the richest sports board in the world. However, his self promotion during the last IPL was a sham and he has to realize that the game is bigger than him.
