Ever heard of marketing kiddo? ICL had a lot of foreign players too. What happened? If Aussie players are so damn popular, how come IPL is more successful and not their own competition ? Marsh.....Have you ever heard about Mangal pandey? He has the highest score in IPL by an Indian and he is no where near the international team selection. How abt that guy in the 1st IPL who played for RR (i dont even remember his name because there were so many) India, infact was a finalist (maybe even won it) with SA in the last A tour with Aus and NZ.
Your knowledge of cricket is not too geat i think... are you the one who once talked about M.U?? How can you compare ICL with IPL... In ICL there were only retired players.... Why is IPL more popular than autralian domestic tournament? simply beause in IPL we have the beest players from each country, so every one is interested... mangla pandey.... hahahahah who is he? NO never head about him!!!!

What is MU? Your knowledge of Indian Cricket is sparse at best. You shouldn't be talking about what's popular in India. The Chennai team had more Chennai stars that its IPL counterpart. Sriram, Badani, T kumaran etc. What ICL lacked was the Indian Star power. Badani, a chennaite is no match for Dhoni. We like our chennaites. We probably have played cricket at the same beaches and play grounds. We might have gone to the same school as some of these guys or their sons. But that doesnt mean that we would like them more than the Indian Captain. We are Indians first. IPL is IPL without Hayden, Hussey, Ponting, Flintoff, KP etc (they played only half or less games) but without Sachin, there is no MI, without Ganguly, no KKR. IPL was marketed that not only did it have the worlds best players but that it also had all the Indian stars. Here is simple way to test that theory. Why was Champions league less popular than IPL? Why hasn't ECB or CA started its own IPL. How did Stanford T20 turnout ?

Pakistan players apply for IPL 3 At least 12 players from Pakistan have applied to the IPL requesting to be placed in next season's auction. Though the identities of all the applicants is not yet clear, one player said most of the touring squad currently in Australia has been in touch with the IPL. The IPL had earlier this month set a December 31 deadline for players from Pakistan to put themselves into the auction pool for IPL 3. Four players - Kamran Akmal, Sohail Tanvir, Misbah-ul-Haq and Umar Gul - already have contracts with franchises from the first season, though they stand currently suspended. The only way they can now participate is if their franchises free up a spot in their squads by offloading a foreign player. "All the players here have sent emails to Lalit Modi expressing their interest for next season," one of the players told Cricinfo. "We haven't yet applied for visas to India but we have the NOC's in place from the board." An IPL official confirmed to Cricinfo that "over 12 players" had applied from Pakistan though he was also unsure of the exact number. The PCB has passed out general NOCs for all its players, clearing them from their end to play next season. The board has been keen on its players being able to take part in the next season after they missed out on the last IPL, held in South Africa. Pakistan's government had refused to clear its players to take part in that season, believing that their security would be at risk in India after the Mumbai terror attacks of 2008. That incident led to a deterioration in political ties between India and Pakistan. Because the relationship remains unstable, it is unclear what kind of interest franchises will show in Pakistan players during the auction.

25 from Pakistan Applying for IPL. The IPL auction on the 19th January 2010 for the third season has seen 94 players put their names forward, with 25 of them being from Pakistan. Lalit Modi confirmed the same on his twitter feed. It is not yet clear what the fate of the players who already have contracts - Umar Gul, Kamran Akmal, Sohail Tanvir and Misbah ul Haq - is. :haha::haha::haha::haha:

Ninety-seven players, including 26 from Pakistan and several latterly with the ICL, have registered for the third IPL auction, which will be held on January 19. The list also includes four players from Associate countries - Rizwan Cheema and Khurram Chohan (Canada), Ryan ten Doeschate (Netherlands), Niall O'Brien (Ireland) - as well as former Zimbabwe nationals Murray Goodwin and Ray Price. Prominent among the players who were part of the unofficial ICL are Shane Bond, who recently retired from Test cricket, Damien Martyn, Chris Cairns, Saqlain Mushtaq and Justin Kemp. The Pakistanis - the current world Twenty20 champions - include Mohammed Aamer and Umar Akmal, and the list also includes the exciting West Indian Kieron Pollard. Merely registering, however, does not guarantee the player will be included in the auction list. The IPL will send the list of 97 names to the franchises who will then select those players they would like included in the auction. The selected players will be informed of their inclusion by January 5. The number of overseas players a franchise may have on its roster is capped at ten and at present it is unclear how many slots are available. In 2009, over 100 players registered for the auction out of which 50 went under the hammer to fill 17 available overseas slots. The IPL said it expected the number of places to be substantially lower this time.
These guys must be Paki imposters, because they don't care for IPL

Assuming that there are around 15 available overseas vacancies all the franchisees combined, then the people who might make from these players should be Shane Bond, Kieran Pollard, Lendl Simmons, Wayne Parnell, Brad Haddin, Thilina Kandamby, Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzak, Phillip Hughes, Shakib Al Hasan, Eoin Morgan, Adil Rashid, CJ De Villiers, Upul Tharanga and Nathan McCullum. I am surprised to see Chris Cairns in the list. I thought he had left cricket a long time ago and is quite old now. :dontknow: Why are players like Swann and others not in the list. Hope the Indian ICL players also get good contracts with the franchisees as I suppose there are no restrictions for franchisees while hiring domestic players.

Not more than 15-20 players (or to put it other way...I'd be surprised if the number exceeds) are going to be picked up by the franchisees due to the size of their squad. Whoever picks Rizwan cheema, would be the most prudent one as he can be bought at a relatively cheaper price and can match "shot-to-shot"(read: slogging) against the new Viv (Pollard :D). He can be a useful bowler to clog the runs. KKR would OBVIOUSLY go for Abdul Razzaq, Shakib-al-hassan etc. SRK is more interested in building a larger fan base in other countries for his movies than actually letting his team management take care of things, so that they can win for a change :yawn2: My suggestion to MI would be to go for Cheema and Perera. Rest are not worth spending money, as Pollard would come with a heavy price tag after his CL 'heroics'.

I welcome the move of including players from associate nations. It gives them opportunity to mix with top players like Vinay kumar' date=' Kalyankumar[/quote'] At least they'll get some following and recognition if anything :winky:
