MUMBAISKIPPER
Rameez Raja calls for Pak version of IPL http://cricketnext.in.com/news/rameez-raja-calls-for-pak-version-of-ipl/46335-13.html?from=tn Karachi: Former captain Rameez Raja has suggested the PCB to launch a Pakistan Premier league on the lines of cash-awash IPL in a bid to restore international cricket in the country. Rameez, now a well-known commentator and expert, said the time was ripe for the board to launch the PPL as this would not only help in speeding up the process of restoring international cricket in Pakistan but also improve financial conditions of cricketers in the country. "Obviously we can't match the glamour and glitz of the IPL, but we can take it as a role and launch the PPL on a smaller scale, if we can even get players from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka or even Zimbabwe or Kenya to come and play in the league, it will give Pakistan cricket a much needed boost," the former captain said. He said the reason for the inconsistent performance of the national team was that the absence of a strong system at the domestic level. "The IPL has clearly helped Indian cricket a lot and helped nurture their new talent. The PPL should be our showpiece and it will also help us showcase new talent and also assure the world that international cricket can be played in Pakistan," he added. Rameez said he was surprised that the present board had not worked on the PPL concept and just kept on complaining that nothing could be done to convince players or teams to visit Pakistan. Another former captain, Aamir Sohail also backed the concept of PPL and demanded the board to start paying attention towards the thought. "The fact is that if you compare our population with other countries then we are hardly paying our domestic cricketers anything. And unless we don't pay them good money at domestic level we can't expect to introduce proper professionalism at the grass root levels. This is what puts other countries ahead of us," Sohail said. patriot
ICC must take over IPL: Miandad http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5iI4MojsQWw7d2NANWxKxiV58OJPA Former Pakistan cricket great Javed Miandad has called on the game's governing body to take control of Twenty20 tournaments after none of the country's players attracted any bids from Indian Premier League teams during its auction for players on Tuesday. Pakistan is the reigning Twenty20 world champion and Miandad regards the failure to bid for its players as a snub for the nation. "It's nothing less than humiliation - not only of our cricketers but the whole nation," Miandad, the Pakistan Cricket Board's director of operations, told the Associated Press. "When we call IPL an ICC approved tournament, it should mean that at least all the test playing countries will get a substantial representation in the event." "Instead of giving permission to private firms to organize events like IPL, the ICC should take control of such events so that countries like Pakistan do not suffer," Miandad said. Mr Miandad - hand over your terrorist sambdhi Dawood Ibrahim and we'll give your country some bheek. Great to see this terrorist b@$ tard and his ilk getting all the humiliation. These clowns are reacting as if before the IPL snub , Pakistan the country had alot of respect as a nation. :D

fineleg
Mods - can we have a separate IPL2010 subforum opened up? Or unfreeze the existing IPL subforum All threads can be moved there, and subsequent threads created there? Lot of news, traffic will keep coming in now. The "Cricket Talk" can become less cluttered that way, and we can focus on domestics and Tests/ODIs.

Gunner_Mania
:hysterical: Oh this is getting funnier by the minute. IPL is India's domestic tournament what has the ICC got to do with it. Next thing you know he will extend his logic and say ICC should run Ranji Trophy, the English county season etc.

saneindian
Actually I have a feeling Pak players are silently saying a thank you to LM and IPL. Think of it, now all the talk is about how IPL has insulted the great nation of Pakistan , everything regarding the 3-0 loss to Aus has been forgotten. Just when the angers had started getting to the levels of insanity with many heads likely to be rolling, this IPL snub has come as a godsent opportunity for these players and PCB administrators. They will all keep barking about IPL for the next few weeks, get another 5-0 thrashing and everything that happened on the cricket field in past few weeks would be totally glossed over.
