Revise your history, dude. The same Shastri holds the record for 6 sixes in an over. In addition to that was the opener in 1985 Benson & Hedges World Championship of Cricket who was instrumental in India winning the trophy. Also as a result, crowned the Champion of Champions (and won an Audi for the feat). Know the history before spewing trash.

While you are correct in saying Shastri was a slow batter, that was the norm in those days. He wasn't too out of place. For the competition in particular you have Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad, Martin Crowe, Richie Richardson, Desmond Haynes, Aravinda DeSilva etc. with lower or very comparable strike rates. You did good research to find out a scorecard that had Shastri's pathetic strike rate. But the same score crd has other strike rates that are none too impressive. I can easily find another score card that contains a better strike rate for Shastri than many others. Point of the matter is that he was no Lamborghini at the crease, but that was more or less the norm during that time. There were plenty of players in that era who were much worse than him. The bullock cart would have suited some other players much better.

I used to watch india's matches only ( indian batting ) and off all the indian batsmen (that I can remember) he was most frustrating to watch. And that may be because - one would have higher expectation from some one with 6x6 history behind him. Manoj Prabhkar / More - kind of people might have been equally slow, but they at least attempted to hit, to miss more often than hit. ( I know they were not batsmen, point being - out of people who I can recall torturing us with bat). Anyway, its my personal opinion and I will continue hating him :). as for research - it was never going to be tough, took only 5 minutes.

one more thing - I cant forget countless sights of Ravi dancing down the wicket and then burying the ball deep into the pitch, only other person who could do better (burying the ball) was Abhay Kuruvilla, but he would do standing in the crease. :)
