On what basis are selectors bringing Ishant sharma in our LOI team when it is clear that he has lost his mojo in this specific format and has been bleeding runs for quite a while. He is being picked for 2 odd matches only to be dropped for the next 2/3 games, before he is picked again for 2 odd matches and then dropped... you get the drift ? Why can't they just let him toil hard in Ranji/domestic circuit (either India or England) for specific period of time and then assess his form based on the performances he delivers in domestic circuit. By picking and dropping him for short stints, we are only demoralizing him and not doing any good in helping him regain his form. It's about time we give someone else an extended run in our team while Ishant tries to bring his best out away from the limelight and scrutiny.

Is there a possibility that we do not have a better back up bowler than Ishant? I can't think of any other reason on selection matters.

There is that possibility. Yes. It may seem to be the case. But we do not know for certain unless someone is given a go. Might as well try Tyagi, cant do too much worse.

I really do hope that Ishant Sharma is given a chance to ply his trade in a full English county season. I don't think he'll have trouble finding a contract and think that a whole season could do him a world of good. Even if he doesn't come out with great figures, improvement is what we would love to see from him.

The bowling stats from any of these ODIs mean jack. I am happy that Ishant is being flogged and is forced to rest. Look at the score cards. The 315 in Kolkatta has been chased down by two kids with no sweat of their butts. This is one of the most mechanical 300+ chases India has managed. 300 of today is the 225 of the 90s. You know you have to bowl damn well to defend it. 350 is more like the 275 of the 90s. You know you are safe if you bowl well. And 375-400 is really the match winning total. Needless to say, with such scoring standards in the subcontinent bowlers are going to get flogged all day. I was watching some clips from the last CB series, where even 200 was hard to chase down. Those the kind of games that can keep me awake for the duration of the game. These ODI series in India bore me even in highlights.

And oh, Ishant will be just fine. He just needs a break from cricket. And may be a county stint after that. He needs to stay away from T20 & ODIs. When your morale is down, getting flogged by Kandamby & Jantambys of the world is the least you can avoid.

They have proved themselves enough times when the conditions are at least a little in their favour IS shouldnt play ltd overs cricket for a little while
