Bradman99
I know what you mean, but it was an important result in the context of the series, as they are still leading because of it and can't be beaten. It's like in football, you might just need a draw to win the title or whatever, you get it, it doesn't matter that you didn't win. But then again it's England so fuc.k em Link to comment
CSK Fan
To understand and therefore enjoy the concept of a draw in test matches, you have to have a better understanding of the game itself. Let me elaborate Test cricket is the product of a time when englishmen had the luxury to languidly sip their teas while watching eleven men battle it out over a hot afternoon. The original gentlemen 's game did not need a result for it to be enjoyed. Just like a connoisseur might enjoy the very act of an artist painting what might prove to be a dud. A test match has always had and will always have three possible results, a draw being one of them. So a draw, is in fact a result. The longer duration of a test match as compared to the bastardised versions is not the only thing which makes it different. The addition of a draw makes more of a difference. It lets a batsman know that batting is not only about scoring runs but its also about placing a prize on your wicket. It tells the bowler that he has to use all his guile to make the batsman make that one mistake or else victory will prove to be elusive. No other game provides this option of a well fought draw where its two in the middle fighting it out against eleven who try to get them down in whatever way possible. The classic setting for a typical underdog story, two against eleven, outnumbered but fighting with all their heart and maybe counter-attacking when needed.A draw gives a fighting chance to an opposition which has been outplayed to save face. It tests the character and mettle of the players To understand the importance of a well earned draw, you have to understand the soul of test cricket. But maybe you have been already corrupted beyond repairs by the fast food versions of the game to ever understand the importance of the drab paan in a seven course bengali meal. Link to comment
