lack of depth in both batting and bowling has been a problem apart from problems with the moving ball. the spinners on show have been mediocre and it was the difference vs pakistan.also in batting, i was not convinced with meenaria and harpreet. mayank is talented but his attacking game has proved ill suited to the conditions.

U-19 WC : Marsh fires Australia into final Australia will play Pakistan in the Under-19 World Cup final after they won a hard-fought two-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in Lincoln. Mitchell Marsh was again their hero with 97 in a tight run chase. More... Marsh fires Australia into final 27 January 2010 Mitchell Marsh's stock continues to rise with a controlling knock of 97 to guide Australia in their run chase in Lincoln Australia will play Pakistan in the Under-19 World Cup final after they won a hard-fought two-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the second semi-final in Lincoln. The two-time winners of the trophy made heavy weather of chasing 206 against Sri Lanka’s array of spinners at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, but Mitchell Marsh’s 97 and an unbeaten 50 from Tom Triffit sneaked them home with nine deliveries left. Such a tight contest could not have been envisaged earlier in the day, when Sri Lanka were reduced to 32 for five by Josh Hazlewood and Alister McDermott. But Kithuruwan Vithanage, with 40, and Akshu Fernando, with 52, carried the Asian side to 205 all out. The final takes place on Saturday at the same ground, while Sri Lanka will contest third place with West Indies on Friday at Christchurch’s Village Green. South Africa claimed fifth place overall by overhauling India by six wickets at Lincoln’s No 3 ground. The knock of the match came from India’s wicketkeeper, Zahid Ali, whose 98 allowed India to recover from 15 to four to post 235 for nine. But fifties from Dominic Hendricks, David White and Colin Ackermann saw South Africa home with just seven balls to spare. Zimbabwe took 13th spot by thrashing Hong Kong by 137 runs. Afghanistan folded for 86 to hand USA a nine-wicket win and win the race for 15th.

India lose to SA, finish 6th in U-19 WC South Africa's top order fired in unison as defending champions India were humbled by six wickets in the fifth place play-off in the ICC under-19 World Cup in Lincoln on Wednesday. More... India lose to SA, finish 6th in U-19 WC January 27, 2010 14:30 IST South Africa's top order fired in unison as defending champions India were humbled by six wickets in the fifth place play-off in the ICC under-19 World Cup in Lincoln on Wednesday. Electing to bat, India lost half the side within 20 overs with only 66 runs on the board. However, Harpreet Singh Bhatia (56) and Zahid Ali (98) stemmed the rot and helped the team post 235 in the stipulated 50 overs. In reply, South Africa rode on some splendid batting by their top order -- Dominic Hendricks (63), David White (77) and Colin Ackermann (52 not out) hitting half-centuries -- to score 237 for 4 and overhaul the target with seven balls to spare. Chasing 236 for victory, South Africa lost their first wicket in J R Richards (0) in the second over, but Hendricks and White joined hands to stitch a 124-run first wicket stand to stable the innings. Hendricks slammed six fours in his 87-ball innings, while White's 114-ball innings was studded with five fours and one hit over the fence. A run-out in the 31st over cost Hendricks his wicket while White was dismissed by Gaurav Jathar in the 39th over, reducing South Africa to 166 for three. But Colin and M Nofal (31) put together another 62-run partnership to take South Africa at the doorstep of victory. Nofal, who was clean bowled by Jaydev Unadkat in the 47.3 overs, was the last wicket to fall. But it was too little too late as South Africa romped home. Earlier, India were off to a disastrous start when opener Akshath Reddy (2) was sent packing in the first over by Graham Hume. Four overs later, Bokang Mosena dismissed Rahul Kannaur (4) as they were reduced to 12 for 2 in 4.5 overs. In the next two overs, India lost Mandeep Singh (0) and skipper Ashok Menaria (0) within a span of nine balls, and in the 21st over, Mayank (32) was also dismissed as India were looking down the barrel at 66 for five in 20 overs. Harpreet then joined Zahid as the duo forged a 107-run partnership to give some respectability to the total before the former was dismissed in the 42nd over by Dale Deeb. Zahid, who kept the scoreboard ticking as India crossed the 200-mark, was out in the last over.

Why james pattinson not Picked ?
Maybe the Aussies fear he would take his brother's route(meaning Darren Pattinson preferring to line up for England), so why invest in him...j/k. I am not sure if he is better than Hazlewood and Ali McDermott, haven't watched him a lot except for a couple of T20s.
He'll be in the Australian side in a couple of years.
Absolutely. In him and Usman Khawaja, you guys have hit a jackpot.

U-19 WC Final : Marsh hopes for World Cup win The future of Australian and Pakistan cricket is chasing silverware on Saturday, and under-19 skipper Mitch Marsh says winning the junior World Cup would top everything he's done. More... Junior World Cup crown would cap everything says skipper Mitch Marsh Adam Cooper January 29, 2010 The future of Australian and Pakistan cricket is chasing silverware on Saturday, and under-19 skipper Mitch Marsh says winning the junior World Cup would top everything he's done. Australia's youth side is one win away from emulating the feat of the 2002 side, which raised the World Cup in New Zealand, but in Lincoln, near Christchurch, they face a side unbeaten this tournament. Marsh and teammates Josh Hazlewood and Alister McDermott were denied more chances with their state sides when selected for the World Cup, on the basis the tournament would help develop them into future senior Australian players. Marsh admitted the standard in some games had been below what he had encountered in three Sheffield Shield and nine limited-overs games for Western Australia, but he'd found the tournament beneficial and was now desperate to win. "Winning any game for your country is a pretty big thing, but to captain a World Cup-winning final would be the biggest thing in my career,'' Marsh said. "The group of guys we've got here, we're a pretty close unit and all hope we're lucky enough to play for Australia, so hopefully this is a stepping stone to that and we can follow the guys from 2002, like Cameron White and George Bailey and Mark Cosgrove. "Playing this sort of cricket, it's not quite first-class level, but there's been different sort of pressures from the outset and Josh, Alister and I have been happy to play. "Because we've played first-class cricket, the less-experienced players have looked up to us and we've taken it in our stride.'' Marsh scored a match-winning 97 in Wednesday's semi-final against Sri Lanka, the day after older brother Shaun scored 83 in Australia's one-day win over Pakistan in Adelaide. Coincidentally, Shaun was also part of the triumphant squad that won the 2002 under-19s World Cup. Despite Shaun's recent success, most of the Marsh clan is in New Zealand following Mitch, including the brothers' father Geoff, the former Australia opener.
